Chapter 4

He's saved?
He seems to have recovered quite well.
Recalling her gaze, Xu Yao quickened her steps, not thinking much more.
However, when everyone had gathered their belongings and reassembled, the school, for the sake of convenience, reorganized each detachment into small teams of 10 people.
Xu Yao, Liu Fangfang, and Wang Mengling were assigned to the same team, and she saw that familiar man again.
What's going on?
Why does she always run into him?
Recalling their first meeting, Xu Yao became vigilant.
The team members stood together and briefly introduced themselves.
When it was the man's turn, he scanned the people around him, his gaze finally settling on Xu Yao.
"Gong Yixing, School of Biology, First-year Graduate Student, Speed Evolution."
His voice was low, slightly hoarse, and had an indescribable pleasant quality.
"School of Biology?" Xu Yao raised an eyebrow, meeting Gong Yixing's gaze and sizing him up. "Are you Professor Li's student?"
"No, I am Professor Wang's student," Gong Yixing said with a blank expression, his gaze candid.
Xu Yao smiled slightly and, as if casually, inquired, "So your major is Biological Engineering?"
"No, I major in Bioinformatics Technology."
Xu Yao nodded thoughtfully and looked away.
Professor Wang was a well-known professor in their school's biology department, his research focused on Bioinformatics Technology.
If she hadn't happened to know that Professor Wang wasn't recruiting anyone this year, she would have been completely fooled by him.
However, she wasn't particularly curious. If Gong Yixing didn't want to say more, as long as it didn't involve her, she didn't want to ask.
After the introductions, the team officially set off.
The school's grouping was quite reasonable; each team had a member from the School Special Ability Squad. They encountered a few attacks from stray animals on the way, but it didn't become too chaotic.
Because there were many people, their progress wasn't fast. It wasn't until the afternoon of the third day that they barely reached a Logistics Park on the outskirts of the city.
It had become a paradise for mutated plants, with vegetation growing everywhere. They were to rest here for the night.
Standing at the entrance to the Logistics Park, Xu Yao could barely make out the layout of the entire park.
At the very back of the Logistics Park, there was a relatively large Metal Sorting Area where most of the city's Alloy Materials were transferred out of the province before the mutations.
Xu Yao didn't have many materials on hand. While everyone was clearing the camp, she wanted to try her luck over there.
There was no food in the metal area, and the materials were all remnants from before the mutations. In theory, there shouldn't be anyone there.
But as Xu Yao looked at Gong Yixing ahead, she fell silent.
What was he doing here? Was he also looking for materials?
Xu Yao was secretly vigilant, connecting her mental power to her Workspace. Without showing any intention, she was about to follow him to see.
Just then, a vicious curse came from behind.
"Xu Yao, you got away last time, but today you'll die here."
Jin Gaoyang strode in menacingly. The events of the past two days had not only failed to frame Xu Yao, but the supplies he had transferred in advance had also disappeared.
In the end, the Jin family had to step in and compensate double the value of all the supplies to settle the matter.
Because of this, Zhu Siyu hadn't spoken to him for several days, and even the equipment he was promised was no longer in sight.
He blamed Xu Yao for all of this and charged at her with his Machete.
"Are you a Phenylbutazone Plaster? Why are you everywhere?" Xu Yao, while wary of Gong Yixing, turned to look at Jin Gaoyang. Just as she was about to say something else, she fell silent when she saw the Machete in Jin Gaoyang's hand.
What is this?
This was exactly the material Xu Yao was looking for!
Seeing Xu Yao speechless, Jin Gaoyang thought she was finally scared and showed a smug expression.
Hearing the commotion behind him, Gong Yixing quickly dodged behind a pillar in front, concealing himself. He observed the surroundings and saw Jin Gaoyang charging at Xu Yao with his knife.
He instantly drew the two short blades from his wrist, ready to step forward and block the attack for Xu Yao.
Just then, Xu Yao took a step forward with her right leg, and a half-human-tall iron hammer appeared out of nowhere in her hand.
The hammer looked very plain. Xu Yao lightly swung it in a semicircle, meeting the incoming long knife head-on.
With a "bang," Jin Gaoyang was sent flying backward, his knife shattering into several pieces. He spat blood and lay on the ground, unable to move.
"That's it? A strength ability?" Xu Yao twirled the hammer casually, a sarcastic expression on her face, and dragged the hammer towards Jin Gaoyang.
"How can it be? Siyu said you had fire ability?" Jin Gaoyang asked in shock, looking at the expressionless Xu Yao approaching, finally starting to panic.
"Don't come any closer, what are you going to do?"
"I'm going to kill you!" Xu Yao coldly spat out a few words and swung the hammer down towards Jin Gaoyang's head.
"Ah..." Jin Gaoyang's shrill scream echoed throughout the Metal Sorting Area. Xu Yao controlled the hammer to stop an inch from his forehead.
The airflow generated by the hammer blew Jin Gaoyang's hair, and his scream abruptly stopped. His eyes rolled back, and he fainted from fright.
"Tch, not brave, but a big mouth.I scared you to death, you little waste (waste)." Xu Yao put away the hammer, said with disgust, and bent down to pick up the broken long knife by her side.
Gong Yixing watched Xu Yao easily deal with the person. He put away his short blades, a hint of admiration flashing in his eyes.
He quickly picked up all the small fragments of the knife that had scattered elsewhere and walked over to hand them to Xu Yao.
"Thanks, were you looking for materials too?" Xu Yao smiled as she took the broken knife fragments, her tone even carrying a hint of lightness.
She was in a good mood, glancing appreciatively at the unconscious Jin Gaoyang. He was practically a supply drop, bringing whatever she was lacking.
Gong Yixing looked at Xu Yao in front of him, couldn't help but curve his lips, and nodded.
"My weapon is a bit damaged. I was thinking of seeing if I could find similar materials." Gong Yixing drew out the short blade tied to his left wrist and handed it to Xu Yao.
Xu Yao hesitated for a moment but still took the short blade from Gong Yixing's hand.
The short blade was dark all over, with a metallic sheen, and felt cool to the touch. The handle was made of silver metal, without any ornamentation. There was a small notch on the back of the blade.
"Where did you get this weapon?" Xu Yao asked, looking up at Gong Yixing after carefully examining it.
Gong Yixing was taken aback, clearly not expecting Xu Yao to ask this, but he still replied, "I got it at an antique sword auction before the mutation. There were two in total."
"No wonder you wanted to look for materials here," Xu Yao said understandingly.
Gong Yixing probably thought that since the weapon was obtained before the mutation, the metal should be ordinary metal.
However, Xu Yao had encountered countless materials over the years. She could tell almost at a touch that this was not metal.
"Stop looking, this material isn't metal. It's some kind of animal bone or the carapace of another creature."
Saying this, Xu Yao returned the short blade to Gong Yixing, who looked astonished. She thought for a moment and decided to remind him, "Rather than repairing this notch, you should pay attention to your hilt first. Because of the great stress, it's about to be damaged."
Gong Yixing took back the short blade, hesitated. He looked at the still intact hilt, but hearing Xu Yao's confident words, he couldn't help but believe her seven or eight-tenths and became a little more curious about her.
The sound of assembly came from afar. Gong Yixing thanked Xu Yao, nodded, and walked out first.
Xu Yao quietly put the materials into her Space and turned to walk towards the assembly point. After replenishing their energy, everyone soon began to take turns resting.\ln the middle of the night, Xu Yao opened her eyes.
