Chapter 12

957 words5 minutes read

On December 22, 2026, Earth Calendar, the world-ending disaster descended prematurely like a demon. The Dyson Sphere Structure madly devoured solar energy, causing the sun's radiation to become abnormal and violent, instantly triggering a global catastrophe. The scene was so tragic, it resembled the ultimate judgment of the apocalypse.
The Pacific Ocean seemed to be churned by an invisible giant hand, forming unprecedented super tsunamis. Waves tens of meters high, like ferocious water walls, surged with overwhelming force, instantly engulfing coastal cities like Tokyo. Skyscrapers, fragile building blocks, collapsed under the impact of the waves. Countless lives perished in this disaster; cries and calls for help were mercilessly swallowed by the waves, leaving only broken walls and ruins in the vast ocean.
The American continent was not spared either. Earthquakes occurred frequently, and the ground in San Francisco shook violently, as if the Earth's crust had become a constantly trembling blanket. High-rise buildings swayed precariously in the earthquakes and finally collapsed with a roar. Huge fissures, bottomless, tore open the streets, and vehicles and pedestrians fell into them unprepared. The dust kicked up and the lingering smoke plunged the entire city into an abyss of despair.
The land of the African continent became scorching and barren, with temperatures soaring as if placed in a giant steamer. Rivers quickly dried up, their beds cracking. Crops withered under the high temperatures, yielding nothing. Hunger and disease spread across the land like demons. People struggled on the verge of death, their eyes filled with helplessness and despair. The entire African continent was shrouded in the shadow of death.
Europe was also ravaged by fierce winds. Big Ben in London collapsed with a thunderous roar in the gale, its iconic chimes silenced forever. The Eiffel Tower in Paris swayed precariously, like a wounded giant about to fall at any moment. The entire continent was plunged into chaos and panic. People fled everywhere, with nowhere to hide. Europe was immersed in a chaotic, disorderly darkness.
Other regions of Asia also faced continuous disasters. Heavy rains caused flooding. The Ganges River in India overflowed, inundating vast areas of villages and cities, with people struggling to survive in the floodwaters. Desert regions were covered by sandstorms that blotted out the sky, with yellow sand filling the air, making breathing difficult and visibility almost zero. The entire world seemed to be covered by a thick yellow curtain.
"This... this is simply the apocalypse!" Lín Xuān witnessed all this through the base's surveillance feed, his face filled with fear and shock. His hands trembled, barely able to hold the equipment. His legs felt weak, and he was enveloped by a profound sense of powerlessness. Images of his past life in the city flashed through his mind, starkly contrasting with the current devastation. His heart was filled with immense fear and sorrow. "Are humans really going to go extinct just like this?" he muttered, his voice full of despair.
The capital outside the base had become a scene of disaster. Earthquakes, heavy rains, and fierce winds raged everywhere, leaving behind ruins and scorch marks. The once prosperous metropolis was now a wasteland. Inside the base, Lín Xuān, the Quantum Spirit, and ROB1 noticed the impact of the drastic external changes on the base. ROB1 quickly initiated self-inspection procedures to check the base systems. Its massive body moved rapidly within the base, its mechanical arms nimbly repairing wall cracks, pipe leaks, and other issues, the metallic clangs echoing through the base.
Lín Xuān was extremely anxious. While monitoring the surveillance feed, he paced back and forth, "This disaster came too suddenly. I hope our spaceship and rockets can hold on!" He turned to the Quantum Spirit and asked urgently, "Old friend, can we speed things up any further? With the situation outside, we don't have any time to spare!"
The Quantum Spirit's voice remained cold and mechanical, "The current plan is already optimal. Forcing acceleration may lead to a decrease in quality and increase the risk factor by 47%."
Lín Xuān gritted his teeth and slapped his thigh hard. "Alright, then we'll proceed as planned. Just don't mess anything up!" With that, he returned to the workbench and continued to debug the spaceship's life support system. As his fingers moved across the circuit board, he muttered, "If this oxygen generation device fails at a critical moment, we'll all be finished here. This darn thing, why is it so difficult to handle?" With each unsuccessful debugging attempt, his heart tightened, but he kept encouraging himself, "Lín Xuān, you can do it. You can't fail at this crucial juncture!"
As the disaster continued, the environment around the base deteriorated. Falling rocks damaged the ventilation ports. ROB1 braved the harsh weather to make repairs. The wind howled, making its metal shell clang loudly, but it remained at its post, successfully restoring the ventilation system. Watching ROB1 "work" in the wind and rain, Lín Xuān felt a surge of warmth and his resolve to complete the construction of the spaceship and rocket was strengthened. "Old friend, thanks to you! We must get out of here alive!"
"We must speed up, we cannot be defeated by this disaster!" Lín Xuān shouted through gritted teeth at ROB1 and the Quantum Spirit. His eyes revealed a firm belief, a belief like a torch in the darkness, illuminating their path to survival. But when he was alone, he would often sit in a corner, gazing at the wreckage outside the base, his heart filled with worry. "Can we really succeed? What if we fail..." But the thought of those lives struggling in the disaster made him clench his fists, and he plunged back into the intense work, transforming fear into motivation, continuing to race against time.
