He had been squatting on the ground, stacking up cans of soda one by one, when he heard footsteps. He looked up, his big eyes darting about, and upon realizing it was his father, he was a little startled; with a soft *thud*, he plopped down onto his bottom. But after sitting down, he tried to cover his tracks. He stretched out his small hands, spreading the towel wide to shield all his soda cans. Then, he just sat there on the floor, eyes fixed on his nose, nose fixed on his heart, remaining completely motionless. He was such a tiny person with such big eyes and long, fluttering lashes, yet he focused intently on the ground, not making a sound.
