It wasn’t that he was lazy; it was just that the accounts for the grain sales had been so chaotic and the workload so heavy that he hadn't finished his duties until midnight. His soldiers, feeling for him, hadn't woken him, and hadn't even blown the bugles for the morning drill. Lawrence and his group, however, had no intention of leaving. Even though the world was locked in ice and snow with the north wind howling, the group stood outside the camp for long enough for a stick of incense to burn, turning into snowmen. Yet, Lawrence showed no signs of complaint. He knew this was his last chance. If he couldn't obtain Chao Xun’s forgiveness this time, the family grain store, passed down for generations, would be ruined in his hands.
