Yet, when the sound of hooves approached from afar and drew near the gates, Pei Huaiyu did not even spare a glance for her as she stood by the stone steps. With the savory aroma of a roasted chicken wafting from the oil-paper parcel in his arms, he hurried toward Ruan Jiaojiao’s courtyard. Lin Tangyue gritted her teeth. "How is this fair?" Her fingernails dug deep into her palms, but she felt no pain. A young maid rushed over to find a cloth to wipe her hands, only to be shoved heavily to the ground by Lin Tangyue.
