Xiao Mingyu observed the changing expressions on Nan Xueyin’s face, a hint of a smile finally tugging at the corners of his mouth.
He stroked the white jade Guanyin Pendant in his hand. "Yinyin, do you know? You are actually incredibly clever, and much of what you’ve said is true. I do mind your background, I do mind your status, and that is why I have always refused to tell you that I love you. It is also true that I won’t kill you; instead, I will spare your life so that you can protect me on the way back to Lianzhou."
His fingers curled, gripping the Guanyin Pendant tightly within his palm. He leaned over, looking down at Nan Xueyin with a smile. "But after knowing each other for so many years, I still understand your temperament. I can guess many of your thoughts. I know that you probably truly don't love me anymore. You are preoccupied with Xiao Youlan, set on returning to his side—or perhaps, you might even kill me for his sake."
