Two days later, the flower-viewing banquet was held at Baoci Palace. Early in the morning, Xiao Youlan had Feihong deliver brand-new clothes and jewelry to Nan Xueyin. Spring was growing deeper in Fengdu, and the clothes sent over were slightly lighter: a white damask *beizi* painted with mandarin ducks and vermilion birds, bordered in orange-red, paired with a light madder-red gauze skirt. The hairpins were far more exquisite—a gold and ruby hair comb and a pair of flying-peacock hairpins. One could tell at a glance that they were precious treasures.
