Chapter 387

1,346 words7 minutes read

The *Book of Strange Marvels* once recorded: "In the southwestern wilderness, there exists the Eshou. Its appearance is like a rabbit, with a human face and the ability to speak. It often deceives people, saying east when it means west, and calling evil good. Its meat is delicious, but to eat it is to lose the ability to speak the truth." And this so-called Eshou was the culprit behind the current incident. The Eshou clan are not ferocious beasts; their natural abilities are minimal, but they are eloquent and fond of misleading others with lies. For their kind, lying is a nature—that is, they are born liars. There is another theory, however, that the Eshou are simply very weak. They are adept at deceiving powerful anomalies, inciting them to fight one another, which allows the Eshou to carve out a living in the chaos. They are creatures that highly value their territory, and because their meat is said to be delicious, they were once hunted to the brink of extinction by other anomalies and even humans. In recent years, they have almost entirely disappeared.
