Diamond is the hardest substance in the world, with a Mohs hardness of 10, while the most fragile is graphene, which is only a single atomic layer thick. Interestingly, both substances are composed of carbon elements, yet they differ vastly in hardness. Between this hardest and softest material lies a span of about nine orders of magnitude on the Mohs scale.
