As a disciple of the Gu King of Miaojiang, Liu Zhizhi was taken into the deep mountains by her master at the age of ten to study the art of Gu. She studied there for a full five years, returning only when she turned fifteen.
Having thoroughly mastered her master's teachings, her methods of casting Gu were as fine as cow hair, and she naturally possessed a way to summon the Five Poisons. This technique of calling forth venomous insects was known as the Insect-Driving Art, which relied on the sound of a flute to summon and direct the venomous bugs of the deep mountains to fight for her.
