Lin Qing pressed herself against the glass, her fingers unconsciously picking at the edge of her military-green shoulder bag. Sunlight filtered through the pane, casting a glow on her pale face. "Have some water." Shen Niantang poured a cup of warm water from her military canteen and handed it over, her voice as soft as a summer night’s breeze. Lin Qing took the enamel cup, the warmth causing her chilled fingers to tremble slightly. She took a small sip, glancing sideways to see Shen Niantang pulling an oil-paper parcel from her cloth bag.
