Bai Wutong did not return directly to Tishun Hall. Instead, she turned and headed toward the Buddha Hall in Yongshou Palace.
Stepping into the hall, she left the door wide open, walked to the prayer mat, and knelt down with dignity. She pressed her palms together and began to chant in a low voice. Her expression was one of such profound piety that it seemed as if everything in the world around her had ceased to exist. She stayed there, in that Buddha Hall, chanting sutras for an entire night without a moment’s rest.
