The estate was quite large, totaling forty to fifty buildings of various sizes. About a dozen were used by the Wang Family as living quarters, while the rest were either used for storing harvested grain and fruit or left vacant.
The entire estate followed a three-tiered courtyard layout, surrounded by smaller subsidiary courtyards clearly intended as residences for the masters of the Qian family. The Wang Family mostly lived in the first two courtyards, while the third tier served as a warehouse. Between the two rows of houses lay a wide-open space, which Su Shi'an thought would be perfect for various activities. Additionally, both the backyard and the kitchen had their own wells, making water access very convenient.
