The panda cub wolfed down its food, and once full, it let out soft, contented whimpers in its mother’s embrace. Though cubs at this stage are exceptionally fragile, this little one was in decent shape; the exhausting ordeal had merely left it famished. Niuniu held the cub, beaming with joy. With bright eyes, she signaled her gratitude to Lu Ruo: "Thank you for bringing my baby back." Just as Lu Ruo was about to respond, Niuniu suddenly pricked up her ears in alarm. She had caught the scent of another panda. Alert, Niuniu tucked the cub into her mouth, shifted from a sitting to a standing posture, and raised her head, staring intently in the direction of the scent. She let out a series of muffled grunts, trying to convey to Lu Ruo, "There is danger; something else is coming."
