"This is Zhao Kuo, my colleague," Gu Qi explained to Lu Ruo. "Have you recalled any key details?"
As he asked this, Gu Qi’s eyes were fixed on the purring Little Calico in Lu Ruo’s arms. His gaze was deep and inscrutable, giving nothing away about his thoughts.
Oblivious to Gu Qi’s expression, Lu Ruo shared the information she had just uncovered. "All I can say is that the person who put the bracelet and the thumb ring in the trash works at a pet shop—the same one where Huahua got its bath. He has a black mole on his wrist. I’m not sure if it’s flat or raised, though."
"It’s a flat mole," Gu Qi said firmly, a look of astonishment crossing his handsome face.
After Lu Ruo had fainted, the Gu Family bodyguards had taken Little Calico to that pet shop for a bath. Gu Qi had felt an intuition that he should accompany the kitten. Inside the shop, Little Calico had refused to let anyone near it, hissing constantly, so the staff had let Gu Qi go in to calm it down. Once inside, Gu Qi had immediately spotted a distinct, flat mole on the male employee’s wrist—a detail that perfectly matched what Lu Ruo was describing now.
Regardless of how Lu Ruo had obtained this information, catching the culprit was the priority. Gu Qi pulled out his phone and began issuing orders to his team.
"Tell the team staked out at the alley entrance to be on high alert. The suspect is about 1.63 meters tall, thin, has inverted-triangle-shaped eyes, and a flat black mole about 7 millimeters in diameter on his wrist." After finishing with the other teams, Gu Qi looked at Zhao Kuo. "Let’s go. We’re going to pay a visit to that pet shop."
By making arrangements on both ends, he could ensure nothing went wrong.
Just as Gu Qi and Zhao Kuo were leaving, Old Madam Gu stepped into the hospital room.
"Ruo Ruo, these two are famous oncologists in the province. We are going to do another physical examination to confirm your treatment plan."
"Grandma Gu..." Lu Ruo called out, but the rest of her sentence caught in her throat.
With the System’s help, the body she was currently using was perfectly healthy; another check-up would be a complete waste of money. But she couldn't say that aloud—if she did, she would be treated like a monster.
Old Madam Gu, unaware of the reason for Lu Ruo’s hesitation, assumed she had completely given up on treatment. She said with a pained expression, "Ruo Ruo, to tell you the truth, I’ve grown very fond of you and want to take you on as my god-granddaughter. Don't worry about the medical expenses; I will make sure you get better."
Lu Ruo hadn't expected Old Madam Gu to say this. She stared at the old woman in shock, only to hear her add, "My late husband loved girls too. Before he passed away, he even said that if any of those boys of mine had a great-granddaughter, they had to burn paper money to let him know."
"Ah." Lu Ruo suddenly found a reason to decline. "He surely meant a blood relative of your family. I’m not, and besides, I’m a dying person..."
Not to mention, she and Grandma Gu were mere strangers who had happened to cross paths. Even if Grandma Gu were to treat her like a granddaughter from now on, what about the rest of the Gu Family?
"It doesn't matter. Grandma simply likes you and wants you to be my granddaughter," Old Madam Gu said, her tone filled with unyielding stubbornness.
After speaking, the old woman stared at the Little Calico in Lu Ruo’s arms and suddenly had a brilliant idea.
"How about this? You go for your check-up first. Later, I’ll have my Fat Tabby brought over. The strangers it’s willing to get close to are the ones I get along with. If it likes you, you’ll be my granddaughter. How does that sound?"
To think that Grandma Gu would let the family cat decide such a significant matter as choosing a god-granddaughter!
