Chapter 189

The character of the human race is exceptionally complex. It is as intricate as their own physical structure, often to a point beyond understanding. In one moment, an individual might be a heinous villain, yet in the next, they might go out of their way to nurse an injured bird back to health. This duality mirrors the human approach to sustenance. Whether it be the demon race, the Chaos Beasts, or other species, they consume food primarily for survival; even their practice of cultivation is driven by this need. Humans, however, are different. While they may have begun eating simply to satisfy their hunger, it eventually evolved into a pursuit of pleasure, and at times, mere amusement. Take spirit stones, for example. The demon race hoards them too, but mostly they keep to their own territory, only seeking more when they have truly run out—and even then, they look for unclaimed spirit veins. Humans? Don't be ridiculous. Searching is too slow; they prefer to simply take them. If they see a vein belonging to someone else, they just seize it. If they can win the fight, they take it by force; if they can't, they find another way. In short, whatever they desire, they will exhaust every means to possess.
