Xiao Jinsong turned around and saw Wu Xishan. He and Wu Xishan had never had much to do with one another, each keeping to his own path, but he could not fathom why Wu Xishan would come to his dock today to stand up for these two youngsters. Xiao Jinsong did know of Wu Xishan’s reputation for virtue in Wanjia Town; he had performed many good deeds, earning the respectful title of "Old Patriarch Wu" from everyone. Many in the Water Gang had even received relief from him, so Xiao Jinsong dared not treat him too harshly.
Xiao Jinsong cupped his hands and offered a slight bow. "Old Patriarch, your visit honors us. Forgive my lack of a proper welcome. To what do I owe the pleasure of your presence at the Water Gang?" With that, he signaled his men to bring a wooden stool for the old man.
Wu Xishan remained unmoved. He stood his ground, refusing to sit, and returned the bow. "I would not dare trouble the great Chief Xiao. I come today for the two children you have bound."
