Amy’s hand, suspended in mid-air, suddenly froze as she stared into the empty kitchen.
Her father truly had no intention of brewing medicine for her. He had clearly brewed two bowls, yet he wouldn’t spare even one for her. Amy felt an invisible crack form in her heart; the pain made her entire body tremble. So, in her father’s eyes, Aunt Michelle was more important than she was.
At that moment, she missed her mother desperately. She remembered how her mother had always cared for her when she was sick. Once, when she had played by the lake and developed a fever in the middle of the night, her mother had stayed by her bedside until dawn. When her head ached so badly she couldn't sleep, her mother would gently wipe away her tears, pat her back, and hum soft lullabies to lull her to sleep.
