The return of Huo Qiming and his father to the Capital was delayed by half a month. By the time they led their troops back, the Capital was still swirling with snow. The red walls and green tiles of the city were shrouded in white, and the branches of the trees looked like crystalline carvings. As night fell, the Huo Estate’s gates were filled with a line of masters and servants standing in the swirling snow. Xu Junjun supported Old Madam Huo, who was gazing anxiously into the distance; Xu felt the biting cold wind piercing through her very bones. On such a snowy day, everyone else was tucked away in their rooms, sipping tea and eating snacks. Only Old Madam Huo, out of her deep devotion to her son and grandson, would stand in the freezing wind, waiting in persistent anticipation. Just as Xu Junjun’s feet were beginning to go numb, the sound of galloping hooves echoed from the end of the street. Soon after, three figures clad in armor cut through the wind and snow, arriving in a heroic display.
