It is not hard to understand. The fundamental reason human society exists is that the individual is far too weak.
Before learning to use clubs and thrown objects, self-preservation relied entirely on the collective. In times of peace, no one wants to live alongside ticking time bombs with immense power.
Once an individual possesses power so unimaginable that it can directly subvert regimes and overturn the social order, true peace becomes impossible. Even if they manage to coexist, it would merely mean ordinary people living under the heel of transcendents, entirely at the mercy of their moods.
