She adjusted her hair in front of the palm-sized mirror on the wall, wrapped her scarf tightly around her neck, and finally pushed the door open to step outside. The snow outside was not as heavy as it had been the past few days, the wind had stopped, and the entire world was wrapped in a profound silence. The sky was a brilliant, vivid blue, and the sunlight spilling over the snowfields cast a dazzling glare that made it hard to keep one's eyes open. The snow piled on the rooftops no longer possessed that heavy, roof-collapsing menace; occasionally, a small clump of snow would drop with a soft plop, punching a tiny crater into the ground below.
