The System was terrified, screaming frantically within the System Space: "Ahhh, Lord Demon, please don't kill anyone! Lord God commanded me to keep an eye on you; if you kill someone, your luck will turn for the worse."
"I didn't kill him. I just kicked him. He isn't dead."
"But if you do things like this, you'll be reported to your parents or even expelled."
"Oh, and so what?"
Whether or not she attended this school was of no consequence to her.
Xu Xingyu shrugged innocently. "I didn't lay a hand on him; he's faking it."
How could her classmates possibly believe that? Some were already planning to sneak out and inform the counselor. Xu Xingyu didn't care; there was no evidence, after all.
Ignoring the complex emotions of the others, she turned around and ruffled Xu Lingjing’s hair as if she were petting a puppy. His black hair was a bit coarse and pricked her soft palms; it didn't feel very pleasant.
Xu Lingjing had never liked anyone being close to him, yet he didn't dodge her flippant touch. He lowered his thick, long lashes and let her mess up his hair.
After a moment, Xu Xingyu withdrew her hand, headed straight for the classroom exit, and dropped a single sentence: "Follow me."
She didn't even give Xu Lingjing a chance to speak before walking out of the classroom. Xu Lingjing sat upright in his seat, his dark eyes fixed silently on the open door.
When Xu Lingjing stepped outside, Xu Xingyu’s expression was sour and gloomy. She casually threw the student ID card she had been idly playing with at him. "I waited for you for a whole half-minute. Don't you want to come out with me?"
Xu Lingjing paused, then lowered his head to pick up the ID card and handed it back to her.
Xu Xingyu didn't take it.
Xu Lingjing’s fingertips curled slightly, the corner of the card pressing into his palm. He looked down at her. "I'm sorry for keeping you waiting. It won't happen again."
"You think there's going to be a 'next time'?"
Xu Lingjing replied readily, "There will be no next time."
Only then did Xu Xingyu’s expression soften. She pursed her lips, looked him up and down, and sneered, "Do you think I have a terrible temper?"
"No."
"So, my temper is good?"
"Yes."
"Hypocrite," Xu Xingyu scoffed, her dark, lustrous eyes filled with obvious disgust. "I hate hypocrites the most."
No matter how he answered, it was wrong, because what Xu Xingyu hated most was him.
Xu Lingjing’s pale eyelids drooped, shielding the dark, obscure glint in his eyes. He stood tall, possessed an extraordinary air, and his fair skin was like jade from a cold palace touched by moonlight. So noble and untainted, yet this immortal-like figure looked like a pathetic, stray dog at this moment.
Even though he hadn't uttered a word, standing silently before her, one could sense him fawning and begging for mercy. He did not leave, nor did he dare make a sound to anger his master. He was so cautious and timid because he was already hated by his master; he could be cast aside at any moment.
But the dull-witted Demon naturally could not perceive this.
The System did. But he couldn't help but feel that it was his own mistake for seeing Lord God as a poor, pitiful creature. In this micro-world, Lord God and the Demon had only just met, and the Demon’s temper was so foul—Lord God couldn't possibly be developing feelings for her so quickly, could he?
Surely not.
He tentatively addressed the Demon: "Lord Demon, saying things like that—Lord God must be very upset."
Xu Xingyu glanced at Xu Lingjing and chuckled inwardly: "He is the most cold-blooded and heartless Lord God; how could he be upset? Look, even after I humiliated him like that, he remains expressionless and unmoved. He doesn't care about anyone, which is why he had to come to a micro-world to experience emotions."
System: "..." How could she have such a massive misunderstanding of Lord God?
He feebly tried to argue, wanting the Demon to hold her tongue and show a little pity: "But he is human right now, and humans have feelings. He might be hurting on the inside."
"Psh, isn't it better if he's hurting? The more intense the emotional fluctuations, the faster the mission can be completed."
"..."
Xu Xingyu stomped her foot. "Give me back the ID card."
Xu Lingjing handed over the card, which had been warmed by the heat of his palm. Just as Xu Xingyu took it, she raised her hand and threw it back at him. It clattered as it hit the floor.
Xu Lingjing wasn't annoyed in the slightest. He bent down, picked up the card, and handed it back to her once more.
It was always like this. Every time she humiliated him, he showed no reaction, which only made her feel like a foolish clown. Frustration welled up in Xu Xingyu’s chest, unable to find an outlet. She spun around in place like an angry cat, then fixed her gaze on his face. Her expression shifted several times before settling into a cunning, mocking smile. "Do you know why I called you out here?"
"Why?"
Xu Xingyu’s fair fingertips lifted his chin, and she went further, scratching the soft skin of his jaw as if stroking a pet.
"I just wanted to see if you were as obedient as a dog."
Her voice was airy, the end of the sentence lingering with a provocative lilt. Xu Xingyu truly was suited for the role of a villainous side character; she knew exactly how to make people’s teeth itch with frustration.
But Xu Lingjing wasn't angered. Instead, he tilted his head back, following the pressure of her hand, exposing the beautiful Adam's apple hidden beneath his collar. He looked at her, the corners of his lips curving in a faint, barely perceptible arc. "Has the result satisfied you?"
...
Xu Xingyu gritted her teeth; he was definitely provoking her.
She spun in place, furious, then reached out and shoved his shoulder hard. "Get lost!"
Xu Lingjing, caught off guard, stumbled back, his spine hitting the corridor railing. He froze for a moment, then slowly lowered his head, hiding his expression behind his lashes.
As she walked back into the classroom, the bell rang. Before Xu Xingyu could even return to her seat, a classmate approached her, looking cautious. "Xu Xingyu, the counselor wants you to come to the office."
Xu Xingyu turned to look at her. The classmate immediately shrank back, trembling. "Don't, don't hit me. I'm just passing on what the counselor said."
Tsk.
Xu Xingyu sneered and turned to leave the classroom again. Before she left, she cast a cold glance at Ruan Qianqian, who had stopped crying and was secretly watching her. Ruan Qianqian flinched and quickly avoided her gaze.
Once Xu Xingyu’s figure had completely vanished, Ruan Qianqian clenched her fists, her eyes filled with resentment and hatred.
She would definitely find a way to stop Xu Xingyu from bullying Xu Lingjing ever again.
