According to current common knowledge in the Cultivation World, places carved with a sect's topographical map were usually designed during the sect's inception. In other words, this square space had existed even before the Buddhist Sect was formally established. It was designed to help new disciples better understand the sect, much like the Meditation Chamber of the Tianyan Sect.
