Chapter 984

The Black Water Prison is an enclosed space that once held members of the mermaid tribe who had committed offenses. The massive iron chains, reaching a height of one hundred feet, were originally meant for them. However, ever since humans began trespassing here in pursuit of mermaid hearts, this high, desolate prison became a vital holding area for captives. Yet, unknown to all, just behind a single wall lay the final resting place of the mermaids—their graveyard. Mermaids are treasures from head to tail. Even after their demise, the energy concentrated in their burial grounds—derived from the dissipation of their remains—forms a potent essence. This essence is the key to awakening the bloodline of young mermaids; it is their most precious treasure, kept strictly hidden from outsiders. Because this concentrated essence is so powerful, it is beneficial to mermaids, helping them awaken their bloodline strength, but it is lethal to humans, whose constitutions are as fragile as eggshells. If even a sliver of that essence were to leak out, everyone in the Black Water Prison would die—they would explode.
