Chapter 2

"Wonderful, as expected of my primary wife, you certainly have good taste."
Looking at the imposing high-rise building ahead, Chen Feiyu said with satisfaction.
Suddenly, a security guard walked over. Catching sight of Chen Feiyu dressed in cheap off-the-rack clothes, a flash of disdain crossed the guard's eyes.
One had to realize that anyone coming to this building was either a white-collar professional or from high society—who on earth would wear such hopelessly unfashionable street-market clothes?
"Move along, move along. This isn't a place for the likes of you. Scram, quickly scram." Without another word, the guard moved to chase Chen Feiyu away.
Unfazed, Chen Feiyu smiled and said, "I'm here to see someone."
"You're here to see someone? Do you have a friend working here?" The guard looked at him suspiciously.
Chen Feiyu smiled. "Not a friend—a wife. I'm here to see my wife, so hurry up and let me in."
The guard couldn't help rolling his eyes.
Right, this Chaoran Group was made up of almost ninety-nine percent women, and what's more, they were all young, beautiful, and single. Because of this, its reputation was widespread, and every few days some rich second-generation heir would show up trying to pick up women, all claiming to have a wife working here. But almost all of them were lying, and all of them had been thrown out.
Never had he imagined that even a bumpkin would try coming here to pick up women today. Truly, all sorts of people existed in this world.
The guard was so angry he laughed, and with a look of contempt, he said, "You think you can learn to pick up women? Why don't you go piss and look at your own reflection first? Does a bumpkin like you deserve that? Get the hell out of here, or I'm calling the police."
Frowning, Chen Feiyu said, "My wife really does work here."
The guard said dismissively, "I see you won't shed a tear until you see your own coffin. Go on then, what's your wife's name?"
Extremely displeased by the guard's contemptuous attitude, Chen Feiyu sneered, "Why should I tell you my wife's name? I'm warning you, if you don't step aside right now, bear the consequences!"
"Oh ho? What, by the sound of it, are you actually thinking of throwing punches?"
The guard scoffed in mockery. To be fair, you couldn't really blame him; judging purely by appearances, Chen Feiyu looked rather skinny and frail, completely incapable of fighting.
Chen Feiyu let out a cold laugh and was just about to make a move when the sound of screeching brakes suddenly came from behind.
A beautiful woman dressed in professional black attire stepped out. Her extraordinary poise was a match for Liu Shengnan, losing nothing by comparison.
Ye Yilin walked up and asked with a frown, "What are you two doing here?"
"Deputy General Manager Ye," the guard said, immediately flashing a fawning smile once he recognized who it was, and continuing, "Deputy General Manager Ye, I don't know where this country bumpkin came from, but he wants to pick up women here in our building, so I stopped him."
Chen Feiyu glanced at her casually and said, "I'm here to find my wife."
Curiously looking Chen Feiyu up and down, Ye Yilin asked, "What is your wife's name?"
"Su Yingxue."
That statement was truly earth-shattering. Ye Yilin and the guard let out a simultaneous gasp.
The reason was simple: Su Yingxue was none other than the group's president, and the goddess of the entire Mingji City.
Now, a country bumpkin had suddenly appeared before them claiming Su Yingxue was his wife—who could possibly believe that?
The guard scoffed mockingly, "Get real! With a look like yours, you want President Su to be your wife? What sheer delusion and overestimation of your own abilities!"
"You claim your wife is Su Yingxue—do you have any proof?" Ye Yilin was equally shocked, and equally full of doubt.
"Here, I even have a photo of my wife right here." Chen Feiyu took out the photograph.
The beautiful woman in the photo possessed peerless features and a cool, ethereal temperament. It was unquestionably President Su Yingxue.
"Good boy, you actually stole our president's photograph."
The guard had once caught a distant glimpse of Su Yingxue, so he knew what she looked like. He was convinced that Chen Feiyu had stolen the picture.
Upon seeing the photo, however, Ye Yilin was genuinely shocked.
She could tell that this was a private photo of Su Yingxue, the kind that would never be handed over to outsiders. Since Chen Feiyu had produced Su Yingxue's photograph, there had to be some connection between them.
Furthermore, she knew that even if someone were to lie, they wouldn't pick a lie so easily debunked.
Ye Yilin was a well-bred person after all. Just to be safe, she asked Chen Feiyu for his name, then walked over to a corner to make a phone call.
The guard was still heaping sarcasm and ridicule upon Chen Feiyu, sneering, "I don't know where you managed to dig up a photo of President Su, but let me give you a piece of advice: there are plenty of delusional people in this world. What kind of status does our president hold? How could she ever look twice at someone like you? Now that Deputy General Manager Ye has gone to make a call, your lie is going to be exposed any second now. If you don't want to humiliate yourself any further, I suggest you scram while you still can."
Chen Feiyu simply stood calmly in place, saying nothing.
Before long, Ye Yilin walked back over with a look of utter astonishment.
"How did it go?" Chen Feiyu asked, standing with his hands behind his back and raising an eyebrow.
The guard sneered, "Hah, how else could it go? His lies were exposed, obviously."
Ye Yilin looked Chen Feiyu up and down. The more she looked, the more incredible it seemed, and she said, "President Su asks you to go up. Come with me."
"Heh heh, how about that? What did I tell you, it's definitely a li—" The guard was halfway through his sentence when it suddenly registered, and he stammered in shock, "What? President Su asked him to go up? C-Could it..."
Chen Feiyu walked forward calmly. As he passed by the guard, he suddenly said, "Remember this: when you judge people by their covers, you're the one who ultimately gets hurt."
The guard's face instantly turned ashen, and cold sweat streamed endlessly down his forehead.
Only a single thought ran through his mind: I offended President Su's husband. It's over, it's completely over. I'm going to get fired.
Ye Yilin found the whole thing remarkably surreal. She never would have imagined that Su Yingxue—who had always held herself high and never gave anyone the time of day—already had a fiancé.
And what was even more mind-boggling: for a favored daughter of heaven like Su Yingxue, her fiancé ought to have been a dragon among men. Yet who would have thought he'd turn out to be such a country bumpkin!
Such a stark contrast was truly astonishing.
Thinking of this, Ye Yilin kept curiously glancing at Chen Feiyu, trying to spot any extraordinary qualities he might possess.
But she was disappointed. No matter how she looked at it, apart from having refined facial features, Chen Feiyu was hopelessly unpolished from head to toe.
It was simply unimaginable that such a person could become Su Yingxue's fiancé.
Ye Yilin couldn't help feeling a sense of injustice on Su Yingxue's behalf, thinking that Su Yingxue had been completely wasted on him.
"Hmph."
Ye Yilin let out a cold, tight-lipped scoff, leaving Chen Feiyu completely baffled.
Before long, Chen Feiyu followed Ye Yilin to the president's office.
A woman even more beautiful than the one in the photo was sitting behind the desk, handling work.
She wore a white suit ensemble, featuring delicate facial features, skin whiter than snow, and an ethereal temperament.
Upon seeing Su Yingxue, Chen Feiyu was thoroughly satisfied.
In the flesh, she was more than a hundred times prettier than in the photo. This was unquestionably the most stunning woman he had ever laid eyes on.
It seemed the old man had decent taste after all, finding him such an absolute beauty of a wife.
"President Su, I've brought him to you. I'll take my leave now," Ye Yilin said.
"Alright, thank you for the trouble."
A smile bloomed at the corners of Su Yingxue's lips, one capable of eclipsing a hundred flowers.
As soon as Ye Yilin left, Su Yingxue's smile vanished instantly. Her clear eyes scrutinized the "legendary" Chen Feiyu, unable to conceal her disappointment.
Although she had always opposed this match, Chen Feiyu was her fiancé after all, and she couldn't help harboring some curiosity about him in her heart.
But seeing him now, reality fell far short of reputation; she was utterly disillusioned.
One had to know that her suitors were countless—if they were to line up, they could stretch from Mingji City all the way to the Imperial Capital, and every single one of them was the scion of a wealthy family.
Even so, Su Yingxue never gave them the time of day, let alone someone as unpolished as the Chen Feiyu standing before her now.
Chen Feiyu stepped forward and said with a cheeky grin, "Wife, we've finally met."
Frowning, Su Yingxue said, "Don't call me wife. I never said I was going to marry you."
Chen Feiyu replied, "The two of us have an engagement, you know. If you don't marry me, who else could you possibly marry?"
Su Yingxue was left utterly speechless. If not for the engagement between them, Chen Feiyu probably wouldn't even have made it into her office.
She took a deep breath to steady her emotions and said, "This engagement was decided by my grandfather without my consent, and I personally do not acknowledge it. Furthermore, I cannot marry a man who is entirely useless, but..."
"But what?"
Chen Feiyu couldn't help frowning, a trace of displeasure already rising in his heart.
Just as Su Yingxue was about to continue speaking, a commotion suddenly erupted outside.
The office door was pushed open immediately afterward, and a handsome man dressed in a sharp suit walked in, holding a large bouquet of roses.
The man walked straight in without even glancing at Chen Feiyu, heading directly toward Su Yingxue. Wearing what he thought was a charming smile, he said, "Yingxue, these are for you. I've booked a restaurant for tonight—would you do me the honor of joining me for dinner?"
Chen Feiyu's face instantly darkened.
To think someone would actually try to poach his wife right in front of him—this was simply too bullying!
When Su Yingxue recognized who it was, a flash of disgust crossed her brow. Indifferently, she said, "Li Tongwei, I appreciate the thought, but no thank you. I have a guest here right now, and it's not a convenient time to talk. Please leave."
A shadow of gloom crossed Li Tongwei's expression. Only then did he notice Chen Feiyu's presence. Giving him a casual, dismissive look and assuming he was some low-level employee, a look of contempt surfaced in his eyes as he demanded, "Who are you? Didn't you see I was discussing matters with President Su? Why aren't you getting the hell out?"
Chen Feiyu sneered. "I'm her husband. What kind of pig-headed trash are you? Didn't you see I was flirting with my wife? Why aren't you rolling out of here right now!"
"What? President Su's husband?"
Li Tongwei was deeply shocked. First, he looked Chen Feiyu up and down in sheer disbelief, then he burst into a scornful laugh. Arrogantly, he said, "A dirt-poor loser like you actually wants to be Su Yingxue's husband? Why don't you take a look in the mirror? What absolute delusion! Isn't that right, President Su?"
Li Tongwei was extremely confident. He was Li Tongwei, the eldest young master of the Li family—one of the top prominent families in Mingji City controlling a third of its economy. As for a low-grade piece of trash like Chen Feiyu, a single word from him would make the man mysteriously vanish from Mingji City.
Ha! What even was Chen Feiyu?
To his astonishment, Su Yingxue merely cast a cold glance at him and said, "What he said is true. He is indeed my husband."
"What?"
Li Tongwei gasped aloud. He looked at Chen Feiyu in his cheap street-market clothes, then back at the peerless Su Yingxue, utterly unable to connect the two.
Chen Feiyu felt immensely gratified. He said, "Ordinarily, threatening me would come with a price. But I'm in a good mood today, so I'll let you off easy. Why aren't you scrambling away already? If you ruin the mood between me and my wife, can you shoulder the consequences?"
Suddenly bursting into mocking laughter, Li Tongwei sneered coldly at Su Yingxue, "Rumor has it all over town that President Su is an ice beauty who never gives men the time of day. I just never would have imagined that President Su actually harbored such tastes—I've truly been enlightened today."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Su Yingxue's face shifted slightly with anger.
"What else could it mean? Isn't it obvious?" Li Tongwei mocked with a laugh. "You pass up so many outstanding young gentlemen just to pick a dirt-poor loser. Tsk tsk, that's quite a heavy palate you've got there. I just wonder, when the two of you do that sort of thing at night, does President Su share such a heavy taste?"
"Y-You, what kind of nonsense are you spouting?!"
Su Yingxue was an untouched maiden; when had she ever suffered such an insult? Her willow eyebrows immediately shot up, her phoenix eyes widened, and she stood up from her seat.
"Hmph, how am I spouting nonsense? Prove it then! How about this—you sleep with me for a night and let me verify it, just to prove President Su's innocence?" Li Tongwei chuckled lewdly.
"Shameless!"
Su Yingxue trembled with rage, her full bosom rising and falling rapidly.
Li Tongwei's eyes lit up. "How about it, President Su? Want to consider my proposal?"
Suddenly, Li Tongwei felt his shoulder being patted. He turned back with a frown and snapped, "Take your hand off me. Don't dirty my clothes—you can't afford to pay for them."
Chen Feiyu sneered, "You've got it wrong. Standing right here, you are the true source of pollution, making the air in this room filthy and turbid. And insulting my wife right to my face—you are simply courting death!"
With that, Chen Feiyu flicked his hand outward with sudden force. With a crisp "crack," he delivered a fierce slap across Li Tongwei's face.
Li Tongwei staggered back several steps, his head ringing fiercely. Even his right molars were knocked loose, and blood began to trickle from the corner of his mouth.
Su Yingxue covered her mouth in disbelief. He had that much strength?
Yet deep down, she found it immensely satisfying.
In both pain and fury, Li Tongwei clutched his cheek and viciously snarled, "You actually dare hit me? Do you know who I am?!"
"I don't give a damn who you are."
Chen Feiyu took a fierce step forward, closing the distance to Li Tongwei instantly, and sent him flying with yet another slap. He sneered, "Dare to bully my woman, and I'll beat you to a pulp even if the Jade Emperor himself comes down!"
Struggling back up from the ground, Li Tongwei's eyes burned with intense hatred. With a roar, he viciously lunged at Chen Feiyu.
"Careful!" Su Yingxue couldn't help crying out in warning.
"Hmph, overestimating your own strength."
With a cold scoff, Chen Feiyu suddenly raised his foot, striking first despite moving second, and kicked Li Tongwei flying.
As Li Tongwei tried to crawl back up, Chen Feiyu closed in on him once more, delivering kick after kick to his body while cursing furiously, "Moron, flirting with my wife right in front of me—tell me, aren't you begging for a beating?"
"Stop... stop hitting me, Big Brother! I'll never dare do it again! Please... stop! You'll beat me to death!"
Feeling as though every bone in his body had shattered, Li Tongwei shrieked like a slaughtered pig.
Su Yingxue watched, completely dumbfounded. Wasn't Chen Feiyu a bit too violent?
Still, it was undeniably satisfying!
A faint smile couldn't help curling the corners of Su Yingxue's lips, and her gaze toward Chen Feiyu grew somewhat softer.
As Li Tongwei's pig-like screams echoed endlessly, Su Yingxue grew afraid that a real fatality might occur and advised, "I'd say that's just about enough. Why don't... why don't you let it go?"
Only then did Chen Feiyu retract his fists. A piercing glint flashed in his eyes as he said in a deep voice, "Fine. Since my primary wife has spoken, consider it your lucky day. I'll let you off this time, but if you ever disrespect my wife again, it won't end as simply as it did today."
"Yes, yes, I was wrong! I truly won't dare do it again!"
Having long since been beaten into the shape of a pig's head, Li Tongwei had lost every shred of his young master's arrogance. Acting as obediently as a grandson, he scrambled out of the room like a fleeing dog—though the moment his back was turned to Chen Feiyu, his eyes flashed with bone-deep hatred.
Sensing something amiss, as if trying to warn Chen Feiyu, Su Yingxue said, "Li Tongwei's father is the chairman of the Mingji Trading Group, and their influence spans both underworld and legitimate circles. The Li family has always been vindictive and holds grudges. Since you humiliated him today, he will definitely come back to exact revenge."
"So what?" Chen Feiyu extended his fist and said with arrogant pride, "Let his power reach the heavens; I shall suppress it with a single fist. If they dare come looking for trouble, I'll just beat them to pieces."
Su Yingxue shook her head inwardly. As someone born and raised in Mingji City, she naturally knew the extent of the Li family's influence; even compared to her own Su family, they were stronger by a good thirty percent. Let alone a grassroots commoner like Chen Feiyu, even her own father wouldn't dare boast so wildly.
The sliver of goodwill she had just developed toward Chen Feiyu vanished instantly, and she said coldly, "In any case, you'd better watch your own step."
"Wife, are you worried about me?"
Chen Feiyu flashed a cheeky grin. Losing his previous air of arrogance in an instant, he broke into a playful smile that left Su Yingxue feeling slightly dizzy.
Su Yingxue glared at him fiercely. "Who's your wife? If you keep running your mouth, I'm calling security. Now sit down, I have something to say to you."
Faced with this commanding tone, a trace of displeasure flickered in Chen Feiyu's eyes, but he sat down opposite Su Yingxue anyway and said indifferently, "Go ahead, I'm listening."
Frowning as if pondering something, Su Yingxue spoke slowly a moment later. "Although you and I have an engagement, you are currently drifting aimlessly and have accomplished nothing. Given this massive disparity in our status and standing, if I refuse, this slip of paper representing the engagement can be instantly voided. However..."
"Oh? However what?" Chen Feiyu asked calmly, his emotions impossible to read.
Su Yingxue continued, "However, since it is an agreement made by our elders, it is only right that I respect it. I will give you one year. During this year, the engagement remains valid, and I can provide for you financially, but I will not announce our relationship to the outside world. One year from now, if you still have nothing to show for yourself, or if you fail to make me fall in love with you, then this engagement..."
Before she could finish, a subtle, unfathomable light flashed in Chen Feiyu's eyes. His usual cheeky expression steadied into calm composure as he said, "You provide for me? Are you looking down on me? Do you think I came here begging to complete this marriage? I hope you get this straight: the engagement back then was something your grandfather begged my master to set up. I am under no obligation to marry you."
Chen Feiyu continued, "I'll give you a year as well. If you can't perform in a way that satisfies me, a single letter of divorce will cast you aside."
"Y-You... what did you say?"
Shocked and enraged, Su Yingxue—the favored daughter of high society, who had already lowered herself to show goodwill—found that not only did the other party refuse to appreciate it, but he had actually threatened to divorce her.
How could she possibly tolerate that?
Faced with the furious fiancée before him, Chen Feiyu remained unmoving. "I mean what I say. Take care of yourself."
With that, he turned and walked away without the slightest hesitation.
"Chen Feiyu, you're infuriating! I'll just wait and see what kind of mess you can make of yourself a year from now!"
Su Yingxue stamped her foot in anger.
Unmoved, Chen Feiyu opened the door and walked out.
Ye Yilin was standing right by the doorway. Catching sight of Chen Feiyu stepping out, she offered an awkward smile.
Chen Feiyu nodded slightly and left on his own accord.
Watching his retreating figure, Ye Yilin shook her head secretly. She had no idea how Chen Feiyu had managed to become President Su's fiancé, but she knew one thing: Chen Feiyu was simply unworthy of President Su. They belonged to completely different worlds and were destined never to intersect.
