At the Venice Film Festival, perhaps because of modest economic conditions during its founding, the film screening venues were rather primitive. Later successors never changed this setup, which is why films are still screened on run-down streets today.
In contrast, the Cannes Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival were established more than a decade after Venice, during a time of much better economic conditions, and both boast dedicated festival palaces. A festival palace is a massive opera house where the opening ceremony, closing ceremony, and all film screenings take place.
Despite the different venues, the admission process is almost identical to that of Venice.
