"A Mei is bound to suffer tonight. That bastard Nine-Headed Rat is ruthless. Who knows what he will do to her. Alas."
Seeing Shitou sighing dejectedly, Yun Que asked curiously:
"There's a good show tonight, and you'll get a front-row seat. Why are you sighing?"
"I wouldn't sigh for other women, but A Mei is too pitiful, and so pretty. Even a scoundrel like me couldn't bear to touch her, and that hateful Nine-Headed Rat! If I had any cultivation, I'd rather spend another two years in this dungeon just to break his legs and stop him from bullying A Mei!" Shitou said indignantly.
"Who would've guessed you were such a chivalrous soul," Yun Que said with an amused smile.
"I'm not the only one; most of the prisoners in the dungeon feel the same way! Especially those who have heard A Mei sing—they hold her in awe and affection. Her singing talent is truly master-class! Even the emperor would be full of praise if he heard it!" Shitou said.
Yun Que glanced at A Mei not far away and asked Shitou:
"Has she always lived in that cell all by herself?"
"No, she's had a few cellmates. When the dungeon gets crowded, they double up. But the prisoners who shared a cell with A Mei all died. Seems like they all died of illness," Shitou recalled.
