Bai Yexiu realized he was facing a serious problem.
He didn't know the roads here and couldn't find another place like the bar.
Having arrived in Beika only recently, he hadn't memorized many of the streets yet and still had to ask strangers for directions just to get anywhere. The bar he had been in earlier was simply one he had happened to spot by chance as he walked past.
Bai Yexiu strolled aimlessly down the avenue, trying to decide whether to head home or go do something else.
Before long, he made up his mind to go eliminate the first person on his undercover target list—the very person he had sold the file to. In any case, quota came first. Besides, if he finished his quota for the month early, he would get a nice, long break afterward.
Considering that he was still a minor, the Boss had set a monthly quota cap for him, meaning that once he reached that level of work for the month, he was done. He didn't have to work continuously like Gin.
With that thought in mind, Bai Yexiu opened his phone and pulled up the target's file.
...
By the time he tracked the man down and tied him up, it was already close to midnight. Bai Yexiu genuinely felt this guy was annoyingly good at running; if he hadn't possessed his flying scalpels, he probably would have been chasing him until the middle of the night. Since he hadn't brought a gun today, he had no choice but to use blades.
"Mmph! Mmph..." A rag was stuffed inside the man's mouth, and he was currently staring at Bai Yexiu in terror, struggling frantically.
Suddenly, a scalpel gleaming with a cold silver light was pressed against the man's neck. Feeling the cold, smooth touch on his throat, the man's eyes widened, and he stopped struggling.
"Move again, and I'll kill you." In order to chase him more easily, Bai Yexiu had removed his disguise. A pair of amber eyes stared at him dangerously, looking just like the eyes of a beast, though a cheerful smile still hung on his face.
The scene looked utterly bizarre to the man: a smiling teenager holding a scalpel to his throat and casually threatening to kill him if he moved made the man shiver all over.
"Oh dear." Bai Yexiu feigned concern as he looked down at the man's leg. "The wound on your leg seems to have split open. Was I a bit too rough just now?"
The wound on the man's leg had been caused when Bai Yexiu threw a scalpel into it during the chase.
"It's fine," Bai Yexiu said with a smile, pulling a syringe out of his pocket filled with an unknown light red liquid. "Let's treat it!" Bai Yexiu raised the syringe.
"Mmph... Mmph! Mmph..." The man shook his head frantically, staring in terror at Bai Yexiu, who looked like a demon.
The light red liquid inside the syringe was a "truth serum" Peinuo had developed. Saying he wasn't sure how well it worked, Peinuo had mailed it to Bai Yexiu with a reminder to drip it onto a wound and find someone to test it on.
Disregarding the man's terror, Bai Yexiu poured just a tiny bit onto the wound, which immediately began to emit a faint wisp of white smoke. The man seemed to be in agonizing pain, struggling violently and trying to let out a roar, but his mouth was blocked by the rag.
He was starting to understand why this stuff was called a "truth serum"... Was this concentrated sulfuric acid, for crying out loud?
When the man's struggling slowed down a little, Bai Yexiu pulled the rag out of his mouth. "Well? Ready to confess?"
"..." The man kept his mouth open, saying nothing.
However, Bai Yexiu noticed that the man's gaze had grown somewhat hazy, figuring that the so-called "truth serum" must be taking effect.
"I... I'll tell you everything..." The man's voice was a bit hoarse, but as soon as he finished speaking, his gaze suddenly snapped back to normal, and he stared at Bai Yexiu in terror once again.
"Talk, then. Who is your direct superior? Are there any other people like you in the Organization? Who are they?" Bai Yexiu kicked the man in the leg.
"I won't say! Just kill me instead!" the man yelled loudly.
How interesting. Terrified out of his wits, yet stubbornly refusing to talk.
Sure enough, people sent to be undercover agents always had some backbone.
Take this stubborn mule for example: terrified to death, yet still talking big.
"Then let's keep taking care of your leg, shall we?" Bai Yexiu flashed a cheerful smile and poured the entire syringe directly into the man's wound.
A thick plume of white smoke rose, and the man fought back desperately, howling, but his voice was already hoarse and he couldn't make much noise.
Bai Yexiu was glad he hadn't dragged this guy into the residential district; otherwise, he definitely would have woken up the locals.
This was a suite in an abandoned small apartment building. There were no residents around, only a few shops, but they were all closed at this hour.
By now, the man's gaze had grown hazy once more, and he obediently answered Bai Yexiu's previous questions one by one.
It seemed this "truth serum" wasn't merely sulfuric acid after all.
Through this practical test, Bai Yexiu felt that this truth serum was far more useful than the strange black-tech gadgets Peinuo had sent him in the past.
Just then, the man snapped back to normal. Bai Yexiu picked up the rag from beside the table and shoved it back into his mouth, mainly to keep him from constantly screaming.
Although there weren't many people around here, frequent screams might attract patrolling police or nosy passersby.
The man clearly remembered the things he had blurted out under the influence of the truth serum, and he was anxiously scanning Bai Yexiu right now, racking his brain for a way to escape.
But Bai Yexiu was no longer interested in letting him think. The scalpel spun once in Bai Yexiu's hand before flying out, embedding itself like a sharp arrow straight into the man's throat.
He might not be certain about other things, but he was definitely a master of throwing knives.
Bai Yexiu opened his phone, reported the information he had just obtained to Gin, and then checked the list of nearby peripheral members, only to find that every single one of them was offline.
When it mattered most, not a single person was reliable.
Frowning, Bai Yexiu spent several minutes searching the apartment until he found a sack. He stuffed the body inside, dragged it along, and started looking for a secluded spot to dump it.
Since he genuinely couldn't carry the weight of a grown man's body, and the peripheral members were unavailable, he had no choice but to drag the corpse himself.
Tugging the sack behind him, Bai Yexiu felt like a prime suspect—late at night, a figure in black dragging a sack that looked suspiciously like a corpse. Wasn't that suspicious enough?
As for Gin...
[Busy right now. — Gin]
Fine, Gin didn't have time to help him dispose of it either. Bai Yexiu temporarily abandoned the idea of asking Gin to help haul the body.
Bai Yexiu picked up his phone again and checked the nearby peripheral members, finding that they were still offline.
How could people be this unreliable...
Seething with resentment, Bai Yexiu suddenly spotted a familiar figure not far away—
It was the man who had bought the Organization's intelligence from him earlier. He looked like he was searching for someone.
Bai Yexiu smiled faintly, pulled the corpse out of the sack, and dumped it right in the middle of the man's path, deciding to let him help transport the body instead.
In any case, Chain only dealt in selling intelligence; once someone died, it was none of their business.
With that, Bai Yexiu strode away.
Just then, the intelligence buyer suddenly noticed a body lying ahead. He ran over, only to realize that the person looked somewhat familiar.
Taking a closer look, he discovered it was the exact target from the file!
No way, how did he die? I was just about to go look for him.
At that moment, the man could only watch as his check danced away tauntingly, throwing itself right back into the arms of Chain.
Damn it!
The man beat his chest in despair and bitter regret—if he had known this guy was going to die, he wouldn't have bought that intelligence in the first place! What was there even to investigate now?
