Chapter 12

"What do you mean?" How is it possible for a spiritual root to regenerate?
Xuanming naturally refused to believe it, but the vines blocking his path suddenly seemed to come to life, swaying in the wind.
He slapped a protective Talisman onto his body and entered a state of guarded combat readiness.
The crazily growing vines quickly thickened and lunged straight at him.
Holding a Talisman of a different attribute in each of his fingers, Xuanming calmly hurled them at the vines. A lightning-summoning Talisman burst open in mid-air, the sky instantly changing color with a deafening boom.
A bolt of purple heavenly lightning plummeted from the skies, violently striking the vines. In a flash, the vines shattered and dissipated into the air as dense spiritual Qi.
These were actually vines formed from spiritual Qi? Not some legendary divine tree?
Xuanming hesitated as he glanced at Feng Ning, who was currently gathering spiritual Qi. The emerald-green wood-attribute spiritual Qi was leaping continuously in her palm before transforming into another vine that attacked him once more.
Startled for a moment, he rode the Wind-Chasing Talisman to rapidly dodge out of the way. "You really have grown a new wood-attribute spiritual root!"
"Do you believe it now?" Feng Ning was even faster than him. In the blink of an eye, she was right behind him and delivered a fierce kick. "Too late!"
Had she not consumed so much spiritual Qi earlier, she wouldn't have had to resort to fighting him head-on.
Caught off guard, Xuanming was nearly kicked flat onto the ground. Stabilizing himself with all his might, he gritted his teeth and said, "You... you ambushed me!"
Feng Ning followed up with another kick, successfully sending him sprawling to the ground. "This is called a frontal assault, understand? Just admit it when you can't win, there's no shame in that."
Xuanming kipped up from the ground, his handsome face dark with fury. He was truly enraged.
"Can't win? What kind of joke are you playing?"
Finally abandoning all restraint, he unleashed a barrage of Talismans straight at Feng Ning from between his fingers.
Today, he was going to let her witness the true strength of a genius Talisman master!
Damn it! He only brought this handful of Talismans with him, leaving him no choice but to pull out Talisman paper and draw them on the spot to deal with Feng Ning!
With agile movements, Feng Ning dodged the lightning-summoning Talismans he threw. The power of that heavenly lightning was far stronger than a thunder-fire bomb; with a few explosive crashes, the ground was blasted open into several massive craters.
Di Siyu leaned lazily against a tree trunk, taking in everything before him. When her spiritual Qi had been depleted earlier, he had wanted to rush out and help, but he hadn't expected this girl to be so agile that she didn't need his assistance at all.
He might as well wait and see how things played out.
Meanwhile, Feng Ning nimbly dodged those bolts of heavenly lightning and crept up to Xuanming's side, quietly watching him draw his Talismans.
"You draw way too slowly. On a real battlefield, this would be enough to get you killed eight hundred times over."
Startled by the sudden voice, Xuanming's hand shook, his eyes widening like copper bells as his unformed Talisman was completely ruined.
Being disturbed while drawing Talismans was a Talisman master's greatest taboo, as it easily induced a deviation in cultivation.
How could she have broken free from five lightning-summoning Talismans so quickly?
"Let me teach you how to draw Talismans instead!"
Unable to bear watching any longer, Feng Ning swiftly snatched his unformed Talisman, casually slashed across it with her spiritual Qi, and rapidly finished forming it.
By the time Xuanming reacted, the Talisman Feng Ning had drawn was already slapped squarely on his forehead.
How was this possible?
Was she really that good-for-nothing Feng Ning?
"You! You actually! Know how to! Draw Talismans?!!"
Xuanming swallowed hard, a cold sweat beading on his temple.
Why couldn't he move?
"Why shouldn't I know how?" Feng Ning looked baffled. "Is being a Talisman master some kind of incredibly difficult talent to learn?"
"Impossible! That's absolutely impossible!" Xuanming thought it unbelievable. Who on earth had spread the rumor that Feng Ning was trash?
"What kind of Talisman did you draw?"
"An Obedience Talisman." Feng Ning was very polite, answering every question asked.
If her cultivation weren't so low right now, she would have drawn him an even more explosive Talisman.
"What Talisman?"
An Obedience Talisman?
Xuanming was convinced he had misheard. He had read countless books on Talismans and had never heard of such a straightforwardly named one.
"It's called an Obedience Talisman." Feng Ning flashed him an innocent, winsome smile. "I invented it myself. A Talisman that makes you obedient."
"Self-invented? Impossible!" Xuanming retorted, refusing to believe it. "Only powerhouses in the Deity Transformation Stage have the ability to invent new Talismans."
"Why don't you believe anything?" Feng Ning spread her hands helplessly. "Then let me just give you a tiny demonstration."
Bringing two fingers together, Feng Ning began to manipulate the Talisman. "Brother Disbeliever, please gracefully jump into the pit right now."
As her voice trailed off, Xuanming felt utterly wretched. It was as if something was guiding his hands and feet, making him walk uncontrollably to the edge of the pit, raise his hands, look up at the sky, and leap gracefully down...
He closed his eyes in shame, unwilling to accept reality.
He had never been this obedient in his entire life!
"...Senior Brother Xuanming? Why did you come down too?"
Down in the deep pit, the Xuanji Sect disciples saw the light in their eyes instantly shatter. They found it unbelievable; this was the inner sect's genius senior brother, the idol of countless outer sect disciples!
If someone as powerful as him was buried in a pit, could they still hope to walk out alive?
Gritting his teeth, Xuanming forcefully tried to salvage his dignity. "I accidentally fell into her trap."
The Xuanji Sect disciples drooped their heads one by one, making excuses for him. "Indeed, this Feng Ning is simply too cunning and treacherous."
"We were tricked into the pit by her as well."
Fortunately, the effect of the Obedience Talisman was very brief, and Xuanming regained free movement the moment he entered the pit.
However, before he could even let out a sigh of relief, a black ball trailing sparks dropped from overhead.
"Another thunder-fire bomb!" The disciples in the pit were driven to despair by the explosions.
Xuanming quickly drew a protective Talisman, shielding all the disciples within a barrier.
Against an absolute powerhouse, the thunder-fire bombs did not pack much of a punch; this time, not even a single person was blown into the air.
Di Siyu was highly displeased and tossed a few more down in succession. The explosive sounds made the ground tremble with every beat...
Amidst the billowing dust, the sound of several long swords piercing the air came from not far away.
Three-foot-long swords, fluttering white robes.
It was the inner sect disciples of the Sword Sect, arriving on flying swords.
This dashing entrance made Feng Ning somewhat envious; it certainly had an air of prestige.
She quickly swallowed two spiritual restoration pills to recover her health and once again entered combat readiness. Today, no matter which genius from the major sects and aristocratic families showed up, she would bury every single one who came.
"Feng Ning! Where have you taken my Sword Sect disciples?"
The leading senior disciple of the Sword Sect, Leng Chuchen, spoke without a trace of warmth in his voice. Just like Xuanming earlier, neither of them liked looking people in the eye.
Feng Ning pointed toward the deep pit not far away and answered honestly, "They're buried inside the pit."
Leng Chuchen cast a glance at his two junior brothers, signaling them to go rescue the people.
The two disciples acknowledged the signal and just as they stepped forward, they were blocked by a thick vine.
"Do you two also want to end up like Xuanming and disregard my rules?"
The next instant, the flash of a blade swept past, making Feng Ning squint her eyes, followed immediately by the thick vine shattering into dust.
Without even drawing his sword, he had smashed her vines using mere sword Qi.
As expected of the sword cultivation genius Leng Chuchen, he truly had the capital to be arrogant.
In the near future, he would become the sharpest weapon by the heroine Feng Qing's side, striking wherever she pointed.
This fellow was going to be rather difficult to bury!
