Di Siyu showed not a hint of panic. Instead, he retorted, "You came looking for me in the middle of the night just to uncover my secret?"
Damn it, why did she feel like she was being played by him?
"Of course not." Feng Ning smiled with a look of pure, innocent harmlessness. "I just came to test out your skills."
Di Siyu: "..."
"You really are something, little girl..." For a moment, Di Siyu could not find the words to describe her.
"Something what?" Feng Ning picked up right where he left off, saying innocently, "I just came to see if your medical skills are any good. What's wrong with that?"
Di Siyu took a deep breath. "You couldn't sleep in the middle of the night, so you came to me for medical treatment?"
"What's wrong with the middle of the night? The middle of the night doesn't stop me from worrying so much I can't sleep." Feng Ning justified herself righteously, seating herself on a nearby stone stool. "We're all fellow disciples, so hurry up and take a look at what's going on with my physical condition! Just now, when I was guiding spiritual energy into my body, I kept feeling a burning sensation in my spiritual root."
Di Siyu was almost laughed into disbelief by her shamelessness. Just how did she manage to pull off such a brazenly thick-skinned attitude?
"Little girl, do you have any idea how many spiritual stones a regular medical cultivator charges for a consultation?"
"I have no idea." Tilting her head, Feng Ning replied with complete sincerity, ignoring the subtext of his words entirely. "I'm not a medical cultivator, so how would I am I supposed to know the rules of medical cultivators? Just tell me... whether you're going to treat me or not."
Di Siyu fell silent.
The medicinal herbs he had his subordinates fetch were basically all meant for healing spiritual roots, but he did not want to be put on the spot like this, and his mood was complicated.
Seeing him stay silent, Feng Ning grew anxious. "Junior Brother, don't force me. Believe it or not, I'll go wake up Master and the Senior Brothers and drag them all over to beg you together."
Di Siyu: "............"
Such a shameless stunt! This girl was entirely capable of pulling it off!!!
Could she not just say a single soft word on her own?
Being soft was out of the question—never in this lifetime. As the Imperial Princess of the Netherworld, she had always been strong-willed, her bones filled with a rebellious streak.
"There's no need to trouble Master and the Senior Brothers." Di Siyu gritted his teeth inwardly. After taking several deep breaths, he resigned himself to sitting down beside Feng Ning, his slender, handsome fingers reaching out to check her pulse and examine the condition of her spiritual roots and meridians.
Feng Ning stared intently at his handsome face, watching every single change in his expression without blinking.
Di Siyu furrowed his brow. He had never seen such a vigorous set of meridians before. As for her spiritual root, it seemed she had... turned a misfortune into a blessing. After losing her broken spiritual root, a brand new spiritual root that had been suppressed deep within her had sprouted.
"Junior Brother, can you not make your expression so complicated? It's scaring me." She wasn't actually ruined beyond hope, was she? If so, how on earth was she supposed to survive here?
Di Siyu felt thoroughly uncomfortable being stared at by her. How could his expression *not* be complicated?
"Then stop staring at me. It's affecting my judgment."
"Oh! Okay." Feng Ning obediently began looking at him out of the corner of her eye, which made Di Siyu feel even more wretched than before.
Unable to hold back any longer, he raised his other hand to cover her eyes, and only then did he relax.
Through the gaps between his fingers, Feng Ning still peered at him eagerly; if she didn't watch his expression, she felt uneasy.
Di Siyu: "..."
This girl really knew how to stir up trouble. He could barely continue the diagnosis.
Pulling back his hand and avoiding her gaze, he gave his diagnosis: "Barring any accidents, you've grown a new spiritual root that hasn't fully developed yet. Take some elixirs that repair spiritual roots, and within seven days you'll be able to sense the presence of your new spiritual root."
As for what attribute her spiritual root possessed, hampered by her interference, Di Siyu had not been able to figure it out.
"A new spiritual root?" Joy that she could not mask spread across Feng Ning's small face. "I've grown a new spiritual root???"
She couldn't even believe that something as miraculous as a spiritual root was actually hers!
"To be precise, it hasn't fully grown out yet," Di Siyu kindly reminded her.
"Doesn't matter." Thrilled, Feng Ning jumped up and gave Di Siyu a tight hug. "Junior Brother, you really are a good person. I will definitely keep your secret."
With the warm, fragrant softness entering his arms, Di Siyu stiffened all over, momentarily at a loss. This girl—did she understand the concept of keeping a distance between men and women at all?
Feng Ning released him after just a moment and scampered off excitedly. Aside from gratitude, there were no other emotions mixed in—the mood just happened to carry her there!
By the time Di Siyu reacted, Feng Ning had already vanished from sight.
He was left speechless, yet somewhat helpless. Oh well, he might as well go refine some elixirs for repairing spiritual roots for her.
As for elixirs, Feng Ning was in no shortage of them at all, especially those meant for repairing spiritual roots.
In Xie Ling's Storage Bag, elixirs for repairing spiritual roots were particularly plentiful. It was obvious that he had wrung his hands and broken his heart trying to heal the female protagonist's spiritual root.
After taking the soul-restoring elixir, Feng Ning slept soundly. Now, even the pink bed curtains looked much more pleasing to her eyes.
When the sun was already high in the sky, Feng Ning felt as though she was about to bake to a crisp from the heat, yet her entire body was so limp and powerless that she couldn't even get out of bed.
"Second Junior Brother, why hasn't Junior Sister gotten up yet? Hasn't she cooled down even after the whole night? Should we go offer her some comfort?" Outside the door, Mo Xuan's worried voice was neither too loud nor too soft, and Feng Ning could hear it, but she was too weak to do anything except emit a faint sound that couldn't possibly be heard outside the door.
"Shouldn't we bring Junior Sister something to eat and use the opportunity to talk some sense into her?" Helian Changkong was also pacing back and forth in a rush. "Would that be too presumptuous?"
"Alright! Stop pacing, I'll do it." Bai Junze walked up to the door and spoke in a gentle, soft voice, "Junior Sister, are you awake? Are you hungry? Third Senior Brother brought you something to eat. Do you want to come out and have a bite? Or should Third Senior Brother bring it inside for you?"
Three heads crowded against the doorway, all bearing expressions of tension and solemnity.
They were met with total silence.
"Junior Sister?" Could she have run away?
After the prolonged silence, Su Yunfeng lost his composure, directly crashing the door open and rushing inside.
My lord, there is more to this chapter ahead, please click the next page to continue reading, the rest is even more exciting!
Catching sight of the dying person lying on the bed, he panicked and shouted toward the outside, "Eldest Senior Brother, go quickly and fetch a medical cultivator! Junior Sister... Junior Sister she... she's turned green!!!"
Feng Ning: "..."
Turned green? What on earth did turning green mean?
Dropping her gaze, she looked at her arms... Oh, crap! She really had turned green! Her arms were a vivid, banana-leaf green!
Mo Xuan wore a look of utter bewilderment. Although he was extremely curious about how Junior Sister had managed to turn green, he still instinctively turned around to go find someone.
Luckily, he bumped into Di Siyu just as he stepped out of the courtyard gates.
"Junior Brother, you're just in time. Junior Sister has turned green! You're a medical cultivator, go take a look at her quickly." Dragging Di Siyu along, he hurried back toward the room in a flurry.
Turned green? Di Siyu wore a similarly baffled expression. Was that girl stirring up trouble again?
It wasn't until he saw Feng Ning in person that he understood—she really had turned green in the literal sense.
At this moment, Feng Ning was practically glowing with a verdant green light, and even her usually fair skin had a tender green tint showing through.
In amazement, Mo Xuan sighed, "Junior Sister, you... you really are green!"
Helian Changkong and Bai Junze were already staring in a daze. Their junior sister... was truly miraculous!
Frowning, Di Siyu stepped forward to check her pulse, his expression growing increasingly grave.
The skin on her wrist was frighteningly hot, and this massive surge of wood-element spiritual energy seemed as though it was about to spill right out of her body. This was clearly a case of spiritual energy leaking out, over-stimulated by an elixir.
"How many soul-restoring elixirs did you take?" Di Siyu asked her in a low voice.
With great difficulty, Feng Ning held up a single finger, her weakness allowing her to reply only with her mouth movements.
"One?" Di Siyu frowned. "Tell me the truth." Impossible! This was absolutely impossible to be the effect catalyzed by just a single soul-restoring elixir.
