The sound of the flute drifted faintly, plaintive and accusing, like a lover whispering in one's ear. The notes were soft yet pierced relentlessly into the ears, while simultaneously resembling the distant wailing of ghosts, their sharp pitch seemingly able to pierce the eardrums.
The sound seemed to possess invisible hooks, snagging everyone's souls. They felt as though an invisible rope was pulling them step by step deeper into the palace, and with each step, the sound of their own footsteps echoed in the gloomy surroundings.
The surrounding environment grew increasingly grim and eerie. Ghastly green runes flickered on the walls, their light pulsing erratically like spying eyes. The cold, green light cast a baleful glare over everyone, radiating a hair-raising aura that sent chills creeping straight up their spines at a single glance.
