Stone Dam Village was a small settlement situated along the banks of the Li River. It had a population of a little over eight hundred, roughly half of whom made their living by fishing.
Sun Ergou was an orphan from the village, eleven years old this year. Shortly after he was born, his parents had gone out fishing on the Li River and encountered a massive storm; their boat was smashed, and both perished.
Fortunately, he still had a grandfather in his sixties, and the two of them relied on each other to get by, which allowed him to survive to this day.
