"Ling Chen, are you even human?"
"Go apologize to the media tomorrow yourself!"
Go to hell!
Ling Chen sneered inwardly, almost tempted to throw hands.
In his past life, he had been a timid online shopping customer service representative, forced to apologize to users every day, taking the blame for everything and suffering endless torment. In the end, he had literally been angered to death.
He never expected that after crossing over into this high-martial parallel world, he would still have to apologize.
naprawdę, people's fortunes change every ten years—no matter where you go, it's always the same!
"Hey! Senior Sister is talking to you, did you hear me?"
Seeing Ling Chen's utterly nonchalant expression, Bai Youxia felt her anger flare up instantly. If the teacher hadn't insisted she be the one to deliver the message, she wouldn't have deigned to look at this damned junior!
"Didn't hear you, say it again," Ling Chen replied indifferently.
He was someone who had transmigrated into this world from birth.
When he was just born, his father became a father. That wailing cry was so loud it practically shook the roof tiles off. A fortune-teller had said his destiny was too harsh, that auspicious clouds heralded his birth, and that when he grew up, he would surely lose his head! The fortuneteller also predicted his father would die when he was three, his mother would meet a bad end when he was seven, and he would never have a complete family in his lifetime.
True to form, his father bolted when he was two, leaving behind a note saying he should just pretend he never had a son.
And Ling Chen certainly lived up to that non-human nature. While other kids played in the mud when they were small, he stole watermelons. Scalding ant nests with boiling water, feeding cigarette lighters to Emei monkeys, bullying cats and dogs—these were just everyday occurrences for him...
When he was five, his mother spent the entire night reasoning with him, claiming she couldn't take it anymore, before packing him off to a boarding school and visiting him only once every six months.
Once his parents left, Ling Chen completely let loose. Either he was beating up classmates who bullied him until they wailed, or he was slipping snakes into the pencil boxes of girls who snitched on him. In short, he never did a single decent thing.
You have to hand it to the fortune-teller—he was remarkably accurate. The fact that Ling Chen had survived this long meant his destiny really was tough as nails.
No wonder his father had run away.
After finally managing to get into Haicheng University, he was dispatched by the school to the Border Wilderness to suppress Demon Beasts—probably because they couldn't bear to look at him anymore and found him an embarrassment.
Last week, during a Demon Beast riot, a cat demon hid in a villager's home. Just as he was about to skewer it to death, a woman jumped out and threw herself in front of the cat demon, accusing him of abusing small animals.
So Ling Chen ran her through with a single sword and let the cat demon go.
A life for a life; she had no right to feel wronged, and she died in the line of duty. One could call it an act of supreme imperial benevolence!
Unfortunately, that didn't stop the local villagers from coming to lodge complaints. And just like that, once the news spread, public opinion exploded, with the entire Daxia cursing him out.
To protect its reputation, Haicheng University had no choice but to claim the woman had blindly rushed into danger of her own accord, while demanding that Ling Chen issue an apology to the entire nation.
"Hey! Are you deaf?"
"I've told you seven or eight times, did you hear me clearly?!"
Bai Youxia stamped her foot in frustration. She had gone on and on, ranting away, but this deadbeat Ling Chen just kept his head down, plotting goodness knows what kind of mischief.
"I'm not apologizing," Ling Chen said.
Hearing this, Bai Youxia clenched her teeth so hard they clicked, her face flushing crimson. Her full chest heaved up and down as she glared like a tigress ready to devour someone at any moment.
"Are you even human?"
"Clearly you're the one who messed up, is apologizing really that hard? Can't you be reasonable for once?"
She glared fiercely at Ling Chen, wishing she could hang him up and beat him to a pulp.
Ling Chen offered a dismissive chuckle, then struck a righteous pose and drawled unhurriedly, "The famous emotional guru 'Tu Sanwei' once said: a school is not a place to reason with people; it's a place for love."
"Trying to reason with a junior—your starting point was already wrong, Senior Sister."
Bai Youxia froze for a second, her brain short-circuiting on the spot.
When she finally recovered, she gritted her teeth and snapped, "Who the hell is Tu Sanwei? I'm going to go hack him to pieces right now!"
Ling Chen smiled faintly, offering no explanation.
His wretched attitude only stoked Bai Youxia's fury even higher.
"The president said that if you don't offer a proper apology this time, you're getting expelled, and no amount of begging from anyone will save you!"
Ling Chen shook his head, completely unbothered. Ever since he had been angered to death in his past life, his motto for this new life had become: instead of wronging yourself, anger others to death.
"Go on, keep acting tough!"
"If the school expels you, heaven only knows how many people out there are going to come looking to beat you to death. Let's see if you can keep that tough attitude then."
Bai Youxia spoke in a tone of exasperated disappointment. Furious beyond words, she spun around and stormed off, vowing never to waste another breath on Ling Chen again.
Watching her retreating figure, Ling Chen let out a silent sigh.
He hadn't done anything wrong to begin with. Why should he apologize? A holy white lotus was practically shoving her self-righteousness right in his face—how could anyone endure that? If he had swallowed his anger back then, he definitely would have been pissed to death all over again!
"The heavens are so unfair. Other transmigrators come equipped with systems, cutting down gods and buddhas alike, showing off everywhere, slapping faces, and building harems."
"Why haven't I got a single hair after eighteen years?"
Ling Chen looked up at the firmament and sighed helplessly.
After thinking about it for a moment, still feeling somewhat resentful, he called out in his mind: "System? Is the system there?"
After waiting a few minutes, there was still no response.
Ling Chen grew anxious.
"Hey, Siri?"
"Xiaoxiao?"
[Please refrain from acting crazy, Host.]
"What the hell!"
"You're only going to show up if I don't call you, aren't you?"
The sudden mechanical voice startled Ling Chen, instantly firing him up.
[Ding!]
[The "Anger People to Death Without Paying for It" System has been bound.]
Ling Chen: ......
Why did this system seem a bit unreliable? It felt even crazier than he was.
Still, the name suited his tastes rather well.
"Quick, introduce yourself, Xiaodian."
System: ......
After a long silence, its voice finally sounded.
[Host, you can open treasure chests by collecting "Anger Points".]
"Anger Points?"
[Just as the name implies, these are points generated by making other people angry.]
Making people angry?
Wait!
An idea suddenly struck Ling Chen. If he went to the press conference tomorrow and dropped a real bombshell, wouldn't the Anger Points just roll right in?
[Sign-in reward distributed.]
[Congratulations to the Host for acquiring an SR Talent!]
"SR?!"
Feeling the sudden transformation within his body, Ling Chen was instantly ecstatic.
This was a legendary talent in Blue Star, the kind that might not appear once in tens of millions of people.
In this world, talents were graded as: SSS, SS, S, A, B, C, D, E, F.
His talent during the college entrance exams had been B—not exceptionally good, but not bad either, firmly in the "outstanding" tier.
F was useless, E was trash, and D was average. C was competent, B was outstanding, and A was awesome.
Reaching S-grade made one a Heaven's Chosen; SS was a chosen among the chosen, the kind every school and organization fought tooth and nail to recruit. SSS was known as an peerless genius, pampered by the entire country.
And SR-grade was known as the Supreme Realm, never made public.
Firstly, it was to protect the individual's information and prevent them from being framed. Secondly, it would cause too much of an uproar and create unnecessary trouble.
"Senior Sister, wait up!"
Ling Chen waved his hands and chased after her.
"What do you want?!" Bai Youxia didn't even turn her head, continuing her rapid stride forward.
"I'll listen to you. I'll go apologize to the media tomorrow," Ling Chen said, catching up to her.
With her path blocked, Bai Youxia had no choice but to stop. She narrowed her eyes slightly, sizing Ling Chen up with a half-suspecting look.
Then she asked, "Really? You're being this obedient?"
"Really! I will definitely give the school and the entire nation a most satisfying apology..." Ling Chen nodded repeatedly.
However, the corners of his mouth twitched slightly as a weird, quirky smile slipped out.
