Lu Mingfei had never expected that the main course of a Russian gathering would be barbecue. It was genuinely a good treat he hadn't tasted in years. At Kassel College, he ate an endless cycle of pickled cabbage, blood sausage, and pork knuckles, and drank inferior red wine for two years until things improved just last year. When he rarely went home for holidays, there were hardly any opportunities or people to go out for meals with. Thinking carefully, the last time he had eaten barbecue was actually before he entered college.
"Foreigners!" a diner cheerfully greeted Lu Mingfei and his group. "Never had it? Well, you simply must try our country's barbecue. It's definitely different from yours!"
Lu Mingfei glanced over. Well, indeed it was different; any random chunk of meat on the skewers here was probably enough to make up a whole skewer at a domestic barbecue stand. However, that pot of canned beef looked a bit strange—he wondered how many eggs were cracked into it... The surrounding tables were piled high with extra-large skewers, threaded onto arm-length iron spikes and sold by weight, a style of eating genuinely rare back home, let alone being the mainstream here!
