Chapter 5

After all, given Gu Weiguo's appearance, if he came to the police station, people wouldn't ask questions.
They'd throw him in handcuffs and interrogate him first.
That was why Wang Chenxi couldn't help but panic.
Yet while Wang Chenxi was frantic, Gu Yang simply sneered at the police officer.
"Are you the head of this station?"
The man nodded: "That's right!"
"Are you sure you want me to call my dad over?"
The man paused, frowning impatiently: "Just call him like I said, or don't even think about getting out of here!"
Gu Yang nodded and was just reaching for his phone when Wang Chenxi grabbed his arm.
"Gu Yang, don't! Let's just find a way to pay the fine and leave!"
Gu Yang shook his head: "I don't have money, and my family doesn't either!"
"I do, I do! No matter what, this happened because of me. If I have to, I'll call my mom!"
Gu Yang waved a hand: "No need, don't worry. My dad can handle it, I just shouldn't be the one showing my face."
That left Wang Chenxi blinking, not catching his meaning.
Yet by then, Gu Yang had already placed the call.
Moments later, just as Zhang Xiang stood grinning, waiting for a good show—
A wildly flashy Harley-Davidson roared straight into the entrance of the police station, smashing right through.
"Boom~~~~"
The doors and the glass on the doors shattered into pieces!
Everyone was dumbfounded as seven or eight police officers scrambled to their feet to look.
Out stepped a bald giant wearing a thick gold chain and covered in tattoos.
As he climbed off the motorcycle, the officers grew even more startled—standing two meters and ten centimeters tall, he was simply towering.
Especially that stone-like musculature and that utterly ferocious, menacing face.
Hiss... Every heart in the room skipped a harsh beat.
Several panicked officers scrambled frantically through their desks, searching for electric stun batons!
"Who... who... who are you, what do you think you're doing?
Don't you know this is a police station?"
The station chief swallowed hard, his throat tightening.
He stared defensively at Gu Weiguo.
Wang Chenxi was scared out of her wits, hiding behind Gu Yang and gripping his arm for dear life.
Even Zhang Xiang and his little thugs were completely bewildered.
This was a damn police station, a police station—not someone's living room.
And the guy just rode his motorcycle straight in?
Gu Weiguo let out a cold chuckle and glanced at Gu Yang, who was completely unharmed.
"All right, old man's here to sort this out. You take that little girl and get out of here!
Oh, and you don't need to go back tonight, I sold the house!"
Gu Yang nodded, entirely unsurprised.
Jianghuai City was their hometown; they did have a house here, but it was just a single-story bungalow.
Ever since he and Gu Weiguo came back, they'd been planning to sell this place and buy an apartment in a residential compound.
Otherwise, winters were too much trouble—they still had to burn coal.
Gu Yang walked right up to Gu Weiguo as if no one else was in the room.
He held out a hand: "Give me the money!"
Gu Weiguo let out a wry laugh: "You brat, at least leave me some food money!"
"I'll leave you twenty, I'm going to rent a place tomorrow!"
"Fine! Transfer it to my phone later!"
"Deal!"
Gu Yang pocketed the bank card and walked straight out of the police station.
Everyone stared in a daze as the father and son chatted away on their own, completely unbothered, as if the police station beneath their feet meant nothing at all.
Wang Chenxi stood frozen to the spot in sheer disbelief.
"Hey, you not going with my son?"
Wang Chenxi snapped out of it and hurriedly chased after Gu Yang.
The station chief snapped back to reality as well, snatching up his phone to dial repeatedly.
As for Gu Weiguo, he stood there with a cold sneer, a cigarette dangling from his lips, and walked over to the chair at the front of the room.
He slumped down onto it with a swagger.
"Call someone, make it fast. Get Shen Jiandong here for me!"
"Hiss..." At those words, every single officer in the station froze in place, electric batons still in hand.
The station chief finished his call and stared suspiciously at Gu Weiguo.
"You know Bureau Chief Shen?"
"Know him? Tell him to come get on his knees and greet his grandfather.
Damn it, this dump of a place—they even dared to arrest my son."
The chief was stunned, taking another disbelieving look at the menacing Gu Weiguo.
After hesitating for a moment, he went ahead and dialed Shen Jiandong's number.
"Just a moment, please—Bureau Chief Shen is asking what your name is."
"Gu Weiguo!"
"Ah, oh, oh, right, right, I understand!"
With that, he hung up with a stunned expression.
The other officers watched the chief's astonished look and pressed him: "Chief, this..."
"Wait for it, Bureau Chief Shen is on his way."
Now the officers' gazes toward Gu Weiguo shifted entirely.
This big guy had quite an attitude—not only telling the bureau chief to call him grandfather, but ordering him to come pay his respects in person.
Where on earth did this deity crawl out from?
Everyone waited in utter bafflement, save for Zhang Xiang, who was currently sitting on pins and needles.
He wanted to leave, but didn't dare; yet if he stayed, he was terrified of what Gu Yang's underworld-connected old man might do to him.
Yet not even half an hour passed before a convoy of more than ten police cruisers pulled up outside the police station.
Three military off-road vehicles rolled in right along with them.
That sight scared everyone inside nearly out of their wits.
Only Gu Weiguo sat there leisurely smoking his cigarette, occasionally casting a venomous, triangular-eyed glare at Zhang Xiang and his crew.
.....
"Gu Yang, why don't you come stay at my place?"
By the side of the road, Gu Yang was smoking a cigarette while waiting for his old man.
The moment he spotted the military vehicles arriving, he turned on his heel and started walking away.
Wang Chenxi offered hesitantly from beside him.
Gu Yang shook his head: "No need, I'll just find a hotel to crash in for the night!"
Yet Wang Chenxi seemed to have thought of something.
She grabbed Gu Yang and pulled him into a taxi.
"Listen to me, everything that happened today started because of me.
If you don't come, I'll really feel terrible about it.
Besides, my mom promised to take me to the amusement park tomorrow, won't you come with me?"
Gu Yang stared at Wang Chenxi in blank astonishment.
In the front seat, the driver kept glancing back at Wang Chenxi through the rearview mirror.
That made Gu Yang frown slightly as he let out a cold hum.
The driver jumped and hurriedly focused on the road.
"Consider it my treat, you can pay the fare!"
Wang Chenxi's eyes darted as a bright smile broke across her face: "Fine, I'll pay, I'll pay!"
This world was strikingly similar to his previous one, yet subtly different.
Some things had developed very slowly, while others had progressed at lightning speed.
Things like WeChat, short video platforms, and QR code payments—they were all much like they had been back then.
Yet this was still 2009; other things like movies, television dramas, and the like lagged far behind.
Still, none of these differences registered in Gu Yang's mind.
Because the biggest difference was that in his past life, he had been an orphan—a homeless orphan, at that.
Once he aged out of the orphanage, he had taken to the streets.
Being underage, he couldn't find a job anywhere.
Fortunately, a kind-hearted soul took him in, allowing him to survive.
Later, after coming of age, he went to work in a factory.
The unscrupulous boss refused to maintain proper sanitary standards.
And so he contracted lung cancer!
After leaving the factory, he took every penny he had left and bought himself a brand-new set of clothes.
It cost 323 yuan, bought on Pinduoduo.
It was his first time eating at Dicos, his first time experiencing a movie theater, and his first time tasting lobster.
