Five kilometers away from Shanghe New Village lies a picturesque valley housing the Baiyun Taoist Temple. In the backyard of the temple stands a cenotaph built for the villagers who perished in the floods.
In front of the cenotaph sits a nine-story brick pagoda. Every single brick is carved with a divine figure of varying sizes; it is said there are ten thousand such figures in total, which is why the Baiyun Taoist Temple is also known as the Temple of Ten Thousand Gods.
As long as incense continues to burn at the Baiyun Taoist Temple, the memory of those departed villagers will be kept alive through continuous offerings.
