Chapter 6

Looking at the bald head ahead, even while acting, he was trying to look cool, or rather, whether he was acting or not, he always seemed to be deliberately putting on a handsome facade.
Li Boda watched that bald head and couldn't help curling his lip.
Dicky Cheung was arguably the most famous star from Hong Kong making a name for himself in the Mainland.
As for Dicky Cheung as a person, Li Boda didn't particularly care for him.
Of course, Li Boda was a nobody; whether he liked Dicky Cheung or not was something Dicky Cheung wouldn't care about in the least.
The crew Li Boda was currently working on was precisely Young Zhang Sanfeng, starred by Dicky Cheung.
As for the specific plot of this show, Li Boda had no idea. After all, as an extra, he wasn't going to get a script at all.
If it were a work by Louis Cha or Gu Long, even without a script, there would at least be the original novels; by reading the original novels, one could gain some understanding of the story.
However, for a show like Young Zhang Sanfeng, which used only the name of a historical figure while the rest was entirely fabricated nonsense, Li Boda had no clue whatsoever about the plot of this television series.
The reason Li Boda didn't like Dicky Cheung was simply because the man gave off a feeling of supreme arrogance.
He was extremely arrogant. Even though he could speak Mandarin—and his Mandarin was actually quite decent—he spoke Cantonese at every turn and had no intention of changing it. His attitude toward Mainland people, and even Mainland actors, was exceedingly arrogant, giving the impression that he looked down on this person and that person.
On top of that, he was a busybody who poked his nose into a lot of things on set.
Clearly just an actor, he would nevertheless interfere from time to time during filming, declaring this shot no good and that angle unacceptable.
This was one of the reasons Li Boda found him an eyesore.
Because scenes Li Boda was in as an extra had to be re-shot over and over again due to Dicky Cheung's opinions, his workload had multiplied for no reason.
During mealtime, when Li Boda and the others were squatting on the side eating boxed lunches, somehow they managed to offend Dicky Cheung's eyes. He directly ordered the crew members to chase Li Boda and his group off to the side, claiming that a bunch of extras squatting there ruined his appetite.
So it would be a miracle if Li Boda could look at Dicky Cheung with any fondness.
"What? Don't like the look of him?" Just as Li Boda was making a face at Dicky Cheung, a voice rang out from beside him.
Li Boda instinctively raised his head and saw a handsome, sharp-featured, and exceptionally ascetic-looking face.
Yan Kuan!
The actor playing the second or third male lead in the television series Young Zhang Sanfeng.
In Li Boda's own view, Yan Kuan was far more handsome than Dicky Cheung.
"Do you find Dicky Cheung unpleasant to look at?" Yan Kuan asked again with a cheerful smile.
"No." Li Boda didn't know why Yan Kuan was striking up a conversation with him. Even though what Yan Kuan suggested was indeed what Li Boda was thinking deep down, he absolutely could not admit to it.
When Li Boda had first started out as an extra, he certainly had a fair bit of arrogance, especially with his Golden Finger.
However, after running his head against a brick wall a few times because of that arrogance, Li Boda had reined it in. He now knew what should be said and what shouldn't.
Especially with an actor of Dicky Cheung's caliber, the moment any unflattering rumors spread from Li Boda's end and reached Dicky Cheung, it would be all too easy for the other party to blackball him.
Of course, it wouldn't matter if Li Boda remained an extra forever; after all, there were so many film crews nowadays. Aside from Hengdian, there was also Beijing and many other places where productions were shooting.
Yet Li Boda didn't want to be an extra forever either. If he offended Dicky Cheung, any slight attempt he made to rise up might be crushed right back down by the man.
Therefore, regarding Yan Kuan's question, Li Boda flatly denied it.
"To be honest, I really can't stand the guy either. Feels like he's always putting on airs..." For some reason, Yan Kuan squatted down right next to Li Boda and began critiquing Dicky Cheung.
For a moment, Li Boda was at a complete loss.
He laughed bitterly to himself: *Brother, as a star yourself, it's one thing for you to sit there critiquing Dicky Cheung, but why must you say these things to me? What if word of this gets back to Dicky Cheung and I end up as innocent collateral damage?*
*And why on earth would a big star like you randomly come over to talk about this with a tiny extra like me? Have you never considered what would happen if I were to sell you out?*
At that moment, Li Boda felt that Yan Kuan's emotional intelligence was utterly abysmal.
Based solely on this level of emotional intelligence, Li Boda reckoned that Yan Kuan would never hit the big time—no, wait, he would never achieve massive fame, and even if he did somehow become popular, he would definitely be brought crashing down.
Yet Yan Kuan seemed completely oblivious to whether Li Boda might betray him, instead continuing to rant right by Li Boda's side about all of Dicky Cheung's faults.
His complaints certainly made Li Boda grow even more averse to Dicky Cheung, but that was all it amounted to—what else could he do? He didn't even have the standing!
Still, Li Boda had no intention of running off to tell tales. He simply turned himself into a listening post, letting Yan Kuan vent away about Dicky Cheung, occasionally offering a response or a word of agreement so that the ranting wouldn't fall on deaf ears, which only made Yan Kuan all the more willing to talk to him.
"Brother, what's your name?" Yan Kuan asked after he finished venting, feeling refreshed. Only then did he realize he still didn't know Li Boda's name.
"My name is Li Boda," Li Boda replied with a somewhat strained smile.
"Li Boda. Good name."
Yan Kuan seemed to be in a good mood; after chatting and joking with Li Boda for a bit, he actually looked quite happy.
Quite a few people on the crew looked on with a measure of curiosity upon seeing Yan Kuan actually sitting down next to an extra. After all, a star like Yan Kuan generally wouldn't have any interaction with extras.
"Yan Kuan, what's going on? What are you smiling about so happily?" Li Bingbing walked over, looking curious.
Perhaps because Li Bingbing, much like Yan Kuan, was a graduate of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, her attitude toward Yan Kuan was somewhat warmer than that of the others.
