In the year X772, time flowed swiftly, and four years had already passed. For certain reasons, Layla firmly declined Laxus's invitation to train together, leaving Laxus behind in the small cabin in the Eastern Forest. Layla had built that cabin with his own hands; because he frequently trained in that area and had set up defensive barriers all around, having a dwelling nearby was ultimately much more convenient. Afterward, Laxus had also moved there, later remodeling the cabin and adding an extra room. By July of X772, half the year had already gone by, and Layla spent almost his entire days at the guild, only occasionally heading out when he took on requests to earn a living. Yet during this month, Layla's state was unusually abnormal, and he seemed indifferent to many things. Seeing Layla's listless appearance, Laxus felt puzzled and questioned him, but Layla simply claimed nothing was wrong. Consequently, Laxus sought out Makarov, hoping the old man would ask him about it, but Makarov was likewise helpless. That day, Layla was resting in the guild when suddenly a chime rang out. Hearing that familiar rhythm, Layla instantly understood that Gildarts had returned. Everyone in the guild stood at the entrance, waiting excitedly for Gildarts's figure to appear, while Layla remained huddled inside the intelligence room, completely unmoved.
