Su Rong guessed what Su Xueer was thinking. If she said nothing, Su Heng would think she didn't trust them. If she explained, he would assume that as soon as she got out of prison, she had found Sheng Qiye to back her, which explained why she didn't take the Su family seriously.
"President Sheng saw that I was injured," Su Rong said. "Out of respect for Grandmother, he had Special Assistant Leng bring me two bottles of medicine."
Since it involved Old Madam Su, Su Heng couldn't say much.
Su Xueer paused, then added, "Sister, if you need anything in the future, just tell us directly. Otherwise, outsiders might say our Su family isn't taking care of you."
Su Heng felt the same way, though he hadn't voiced it.
"Understood." Su Rong’s reply was meant for Su Heng.
"Sister, get some rest early; we won't disturb you anymore. By the way, try on these clothes. If you don't like them, just tell me, and I'll pick out others for you."
Su Xueer acted very considerately, pulling Su Heng along as they left, not forgetting to close the bedroom door behind her.
Su Rong looked through the clothes on the bed. Every single piece had been carefully shredded with scissors. They had been delivered in tatters. She knew Su Xueer had bad intentions, but she hadn't expected her to be this malicious.
Su Heng had watched as Su Xueer delivered these clothes. If Su Rong didn't wear them tomorrow, Su Xueer would likely turn around and accuse her of something else, slandering her to stir up the Su family's resentment against her.
It happened exactly as she predicted. At breakfast, just as everyone sat down, Su Xueer stared at her. "Sister, why are you still wearing your old clothes from three years ago? Don't you like the ones I gave you?"
She acted like a child who had made a mistake. "That shouldn't be. I picked them out carefully and even showed them to Mom. Mom said they were nice."
Having raised her, Bai Fei still felt a pang of pity for Su Rong. "Do they not fit?"
"I’ve lost a lot of weight over the last few years, so Xueer’s clothes are a bit big," Su Rong replied cautiously. As she held a bowl of porridge, her hand trembled slightly, and the porridge spilled directly onto Su Xueer’s clothes, eliciting a sharp scream from her.
"I’m sorry, sister. Let me help you wipe it off." Su Rong hurriedly stood up and pulled Su Xueer back to her room.
Su Xueer shook off her hand and snapped, "You did that on purpose, didn't you?"
Su Rong stopped pretending. "If I hadn't pulled you away, were you going to say, 'These clothes don't fit? I’ll go take them back and get you something else'?"
Su Xueer looked startled; that was exactly what she had planned to say. "Since they don't fit you, isn't it normal for me to take them back?"
Su Rong crossed her arms over her chest. "And then, you would have acted all aggrieved and told everyone, 'Sister, you don't have to like the clothes I gave you, but why did you have to shred them? Do you hate me that much?' Am I wrong?"
Su Xueer’s eyes darted away. "I don't know what you're talking about. Are you saying you shredded the clothes I gave you? Why would you..."
"Why would I do that?" Su Rong let out a cold laugh. "It’s just the two of us now. Is this act really necessary?"
Su Xueer opened her mouth to argue, but Su Rong interrupted. "Grandmother, Dad, and Mom aren't fools. Do you really think you can splash this bucket of filth on me?"
"There’s one thing you might not know. When Mom was cutting my hair when I was a child, she accidentally cut my ear, and it bled a lot. Since then, I’ve had a deep phobia of scissors."
"My room never has scissors in it, and the Su family knows this. So, do you really think I would have shredded the clothes you gave me?"
Su Xueer’s mouth hung open in shock. "Then why didn't you expose me in front of everyone?"
Su Rong returned to her room, gathered the clothes, carried them back to Su Xueer’s room, and threw them onto her bed. "I just got back. I don't want Grandmother to see us sisters at odds."
"In the future, you’d better not provoke me. Don't forget, I just got out of prison. I survived that environment—your little tricks are nothing to me. Don't be so stupid!"
Su Xueer shivered. Su Rong seemed like a different person; she was actually starting to feel afraid. Three years ago, no matter how far Su Xueer went, Su Rong would just endure it. Now, she was actually fighting back?
Still, she wasn't someone to be trifled with either. Hmph, there was plenty of time; she’d see who had the last laugh!
Su Xueer changed her clothes and returned to the dining room with Su Rong. She didn't blame Su Rong for spilling the porridge at all; instead, she blamed herself.
"It was my carelessness. The clothes didn't fit Sister well, so I took them back. Sister, when we have time, I'll take you out, and we can buy some new ones together."
"Alright," Su Rong said, sitting back down to continue her breakfast. The farce had been suppressed.
After breakfast, everyone went about their business. Su Heng and Su Jiancheng took their briefcases to the company, and Bai Fei went out to meet some socialites for beauty treatments.
Su Rong was called to Old Madam Su’s room.
Old Madam Su handed her a brand-new smartphone. "The SIM card is already inside. It’s your old number."
She then took out a bank card. "There is one million in here for your pocket money. Go out, enjoy yourself, and buy some clothes. When you run out, I'll transfer more."
Su Rong didn't want it, but she was penniless, so she had to accept. "Thank you, Grandmother."
Old Madam Su looked at her kindly. "When Xueer said she wanted to give you clothes last night, I actually wanted to refuse for you, but everyone was there, and it wouldn't have been right to slight her."
Su Rong nodded. "I understand, Grandmother."
"Grandmother has a gift for you. Come with me." Old Madam Su took Su Rong’s hand and led her to the entrance.
A red Porsche was parked in the courtyard, and Aunt Yun brought over the car keys.
Old Madam Su handed them to Su Rong. "The car you used to drive hit someone, so I had it taken care of. This is a new one I bought recently. I kept the color but changed the model. It was just delivered. Do you like it?"
Su Rong felt a lump in her throat. "I love it. Thank you, Grandmother, for thinking of everything."
Su Xueer, wearing a high-fashion dress with a coat draped over her shoulders and exquisite makeup, walked out of the house. "Grandmother, is this the new car you bought for Su... for Sister?"
Old Madam Su smiled. "What do you think? Not bad, right?"
Su Xueer felt sour. A convict, a bastard born of a maid—why should she receive the same treatment as her?
"Such a nice car is certainly good, but Grandmother, Sister just got out. If you let her drive such a luxury car, won't it cause gossip?"
Old Madam Su’s tone was calm but carried an undeniable air of authority. "My granddaughter deserves the finest luxuries!"
Su Xueer dared not speak her mind. Although Su Jiancheng managed the Su family, Old Madam Su had absolute authority. "Grandmother is right. Grandmother, I’m going to Yugong now."
She turned her head to look at Su Rong. "It would be so nice if Sister could come with me. We could have some company. Unfortunately..."
Yugong was the top socialite club in the Imperial Capital, belonging to the Shengshi Group and the Sheng Family. Only daughters of wealthy families could join, and it required a strict qualification check; the threshold was very high.
Aside from social gatherings and resource sharing, the club also provided high-end etiquette training, including traditional arts, cooking, wine tasting, tea ceremonies, and more.
As a socialite, in addition to being elegant in speech and dignified in bearing, one had to have impressive talents.
There was an unspoken rule in the Imperial Capital: only those who had studied at Socialites Hall could be considered true socialites.
Su Xueer’s face was overflowing with a sense of superiority. She was certain that Su Rong couldn't get into such an elite place. With a criminal record, she would never pass the vetting process.
