The searing pain in his rear completely woke Mi Lan up to the harsh reality: his opponent wasn't just the Howling Sun Hound King, but a whole pack of them, and his battlefield awareness was still far too poor.
Hack-and-slashing his way through several Howling Sun Hounds that leaped toward him, Mi Lan tossed out another handful of talismans, blasting a whole patch of them to the ground. Realizing that his offspring had suffered heavy casualties, the Hound King hesitated no longer. With another loud roar, it lunged and sank its teeth into Mi Lan's thigh.
The Hound King was naturally faster than Mi Lan. Head-on combat was manageable, but sneak attacks were a nightmare. Given the plumpness of the young master's build, speed was never his strong suit. The Hound King bit deep into Mi Lan's thigh, then immediately released its grip and sprang backward, narrowly dodging Mi Lan's reflex-driven slash.
