After the brief surge of satisfaction passed, the realization that her work was far from finished spurred her to turn back and retrace her steps along the corridor. Stepping out of the passageway, her brow furrowed as she scanned the row of low-slung huts where the laborers were held. These were nothing more than squalid, low-roofed shacks of thatch, barely enough to break the wind, let alone offer any protection from the rain. She bit her lip, contemplating the fastest way to lead these thousands of laborers to safety. After some thought, she settled on a plan. Deciding to act, she got straight to work.
