The afternoon sun was scorching, baking the asphalt until it seemed ready to melt. Wu Ming stared blankly ahead, driving with a look of utter numbness. When asked what he wanted to eat, he had replied that he wanted to die. Lacking better options, Bai Yu made the decision herself. She would have been happy with a roadside stall, but given Lin Du’s distinguished status, she opted for a restaurant with air conditioning and a touch of class. The restaurant did not allow pets. Bai Yu returned to the car feeling deflated, but just as she was about to get back in, Lin Du pulled out his phone and showed the cashier something on the screen. Moments later, the cashier summoned the owner—a chubby man in a tailored suit. Upon seeing Lin Du, the man bowed repeatedly, wearing a saccharine smile that looked entirely out of place on someone his age.
