Chapter 77

1,740 words9 minutes read

On the streets of a foreign land, a cold wind carried a fine drizzle that lashed against the shoulders of pedestrians—and against the heart of Su Yao. The streetlamps cast a dim, yellowish glow, stretching her shadow out long behind her. Su Yao walked aimlessly, the coffee in her hand long since having lost its warmth, though she was entirely unaware of it. Months ago, Su Yao had embarked on this journey of overseas study for the sake of her dreams, and to lay a more solid foundation for the future shared by her and Lin Yu. When she first arrived, everything was filled with novelty; different cultures and advanced concepts made her eager to absorb knowledge like a starving person. Yet, as time passed, the chasm of distance and time quietly widened. Whenever night fell and Su Yao returned alone to that tiny rented room, the surrounding silence would engulf her like a rising tide. She could only look at Lin Yu's photos and listen to his voice through the screen of her phone, while her longing grew wildly like overgrown grass. The wonderful moments they had once spent together flashed through her mind over and over again—watching the sunrise by the sea, tasting delicious food at roadside snack stalls, striving together for their respective work and dreams... But now, those memories felt like distant dreams, utterly out of reach.
