"Ah, ah, ah, ah!"
Fu Wenying felt a splitting headache and a searing pain all over her body, completely devoid of strength. Opening her eyes, she realized this was her own bedroom from before her marriage; everything that came into view was achingly familiar.
She thought to herself, hadn't she gone to turn herself in and then ended up in the hospital? How had she ended up here? Lying on the bed to steady herself for a moment, she got up, walked over to the calendar, and checked the date.
Tomorrow, she was to marry Meng Huaijin. Could she have been reborn?! She leaned against the wall, trying to digest this unbelievable news.
"Knock, knock, knock!" The sound of knocking on the door interrupted her daze. "Nannan, it's me, your brother. Are you asleep? If not, let's talk." It was Fu Wenying's older brother, Fu Bochu, the heir to the Fu Family group, who adored his younger sister immensely.
Fu Wenying recalled how the Meng Family had proposed back then, insisting that she had to marry him and using the company as leverage. She had only met Meng Huaijin a few times and didn't really know him, yet compared to the Meng Family, her own family's status in Yancheng fell short by a considerable margin. Not wanting to put her loving parents in a difficult position, she had agreed to the marriage. Her parents had felt immense guilt, believing they had ruined her happiness, even threatening to let the company go if it meant not letting their precious gem suffer any grievances.
And how could she have ever borne to let her family turn out like that? Besides, Zhu Yan, the person she once loved, had gone abroad for the sake of his own future and abandoned her, only for her to realize in the end that she was merely a pawn in his game. After marrying into the Meng Family, Meng Huaijin had been exceptionally attentive and cared for her wholeheartedly; only later did she learn that it had been love at first sight for him. Back then, because of Zhu Yan, she had been unable to accept a new relationship, which was why he had resorted to such desperate measures to make her marry him. In this lifetime, she also wanted to let him see her love for him.
Steadfasting herself, she replied, "Brother, I'm not asleep yet." She walked over to the bedroom door, pulled it open, and for a moment felt her expression daze at the sight of her long-seen brother. Seeing her snap out of it, Fu Bochu spoke up, "Nannan, why are you so distracted? Come on over, Mom, Dad, and I want to talk to you." Regaining her composure, she followed him to the living room.
Seeing her father Fu Yixing and mother Zhou Lanzhi still looking dazed, Fu Bochu noticed her standing there blankly once more and pulled her down to sit beside them.
"Nannan, how about we call off the wedding? I know you two don't have an emotional foundation, and Dad is afraid you'll suffer grievances over there," Fu Yixing said.
Mother Zhou Lanzhi walked back over, sat beside her, and took her hand. "Nannan, your father and I have thought it over. If you don't marry him, we'll liquidate our assets and move abroad to live, and let your brother develop his career overseas."
Fu Wenying looked at her older brother, Fu Bochu, who nodded repeatedly and said, "That's right! With your brother's capabilities, I can thrive anywhere. We simply cannot let you, whom we hold in the palms of our hands, be wronged."
Warmth flooded Fu Wenying's heart, and her eyes reddened with emotion.
"Dad, Mom, Brother, having you all is truly wonderful. Tomorrow, I am still going to get married. Don't worry, I will take good care of myself, and I will come home often." She gave them a resolute look that assured her parents they could rest easy.
That's right, how could she bear to let the Fu Family end up like that, forcing her parents to abandon years of hard-earned effort?
Besides, in her past life, Meng Huaijin had truly loved her; it was only because she had been blinded by her ex that she had failed to see her own heart until later. Therefore, in this life, she would marry Meng Huaijin with all her heart and soul, and live a loving life together until old age.
Seeing her determination, her parents wanted to say more, but ultimately kept the words to themselves. Her brother Fu Bochu only looked at her and shook his head. Her father, Fu Yixing, walked over, patted her head, and said, "The Fu Family will always be your backing. Whenever you need anything, come back to find your mom and dad. Stop carrying everything on your own shoulders; you are our daughter, and your brother's sister."
Watching her parents' retreating backs as they walked back to their bedroom, tears welled up in her eyes and finally spilled over uncontrollably. Fu Bochu hurried over and reached out to wipe away her tears. "Don't cry. You, oh you—my dearly loved younger sister since childhood is getting married tomorrow, and I will work hard to elevate the Fu Family so you have a strong backing." After saying a few more words, he prepared to return to his room.
As she stood up and prepared to head upstairs to her bedroom, Fu Bochu called out from the living room, "Nannan, do you really want to get married?"
"I do," she nodded with a smile.
