Chapter 8

None of them were ordinary people.
Amber held a Vision, Lumine also possessed the Anemo element, and as for Jiang Chen, it went without saying.
As for Paimon?
Well, better not to mention her!
She wasn't ordinary either.
Precisely because of this, they had all managed to arrive in Mondstadt in such a short amount of time.
"It's already getting dark."
"Why don't you all stay at the inn for the night? I'm going to find Acting Grand Master Jean first."
"I'll come find you tomorrow."
Amber led Lumine, Jiang Chen, and Paimon to an inn in Mondstadt, then helped the three of them book their rooms.
After doing all that, she even handed some Mora to Jiang Chen.
She knew that Jiang Chen and Lumine didn't have any of this world's currency, so she thoughtfully provided some.
Seeing the Mora Amber handed over, Jiang Chen didn't refuse.
It wasn't much—just a thousand Mora.
Still, it was enough for Jiang Chen and the others to buy dinner.
In fact, Jiang Chen and Lumine still had a little Mora on them, which they had found while camping.
The amount was small, just over a hundred Mora.
The purchasing power of Mora was roughly similar to that of RMB in his past life.
A thousand Mora was more than enough for everyone's meal.
After getting the three of them settled, Amber hurried off to report to the Knights of Favonius.
Seeing this, Jiang Chen turned to Lumine and said:
"Go take a shower first!"
"We'll get something to eat afterwards."
Jiang Chen quietly pocketed the money and walked toward his room inside the inn.
"Then you have to wait for us!"
"Don't you dare leave without us."
With the money still in Jiang Chen's possession, Paimon was terrified that Jiang Chen wouldn't call for her when it was time to eat. If he did that, she really would have to give him a terrible nickname.
Hearing Paimon say this, Lumine rolled her eyes in exasperation.
"If you don't hurry up, I won't wait for you either."
With that parting shot, Lumine quickened her pace and walked inside.
Paimon panicked instantly upon hearing this and hurried to follow her.
"No, you have to wait for me!"
"I'm starving right now."
Who knows what was going through Paimon's head for her to say something like that?
Would Jiang Chen really leave them behind when he went to eat?
Was she seriously afraid he would run away with a mere thousand Mora?
Lumine couldn't even be bothered to retort.
Once inside the inn, Jiang Chen immediately took a nice, relaxing shower.
Having been in Teyvat for two days now, Jiang Chen had gradually accepted the reality of his transmigration. He was the type to make the best of whatever situation he found himself in, especially since he now possessed formidable power. For all these reasons, accepting his transmigration came quite easily to him.
After his shower, Jiang Chen used his magic to dry himself off, then took a peek at his spatial backpack.
It was filled with various wild fruits and a collection of Hilichurl masks.
These looked like things he could sell for money.
He could just deal with all of it after dinner.
After staying in his room for a little while, Paimon came knocking on his door.
"Jiang Chen, open up!"
"Let's go eat!!"
Hearing the commotion, Jiang Chen collected his thoughts and stepped outside.
Lumine had already finished her shower, her hair still slightly damp.
Seeing her like this, Jiang Chen couldn't help but tease her:
"How much of a rush were you in?"
"Your hair isn't even dry yet."
With that, Jiang Chen raised a hand and rested it on Lumine's shoulder. Before she could react, a wave of warmth washed over her, making her feel cozy all over. At the same time, her damp hair was instantly dried.
Feeling the strange sensation spreading through her body, Lumine's face flushed red, but she quickly recovered.
"Thanks!"
"Let's go."
"It's all Paimon's fault."
"She kept rushing me."
It was entirely Paimon's fault that she had been in such a rush to leave—she hadn't even had time to soak in a bath.
"Hehe, I was just hungry!!"
Hearing Lumine's complaint, Paimon scratched her cheek in mild embarrassment. She was just hungry, after all—what malicious intent could she possibly have?
With a chuckle, the three of them headed downstairs together to Good Hunter for dinner.
Mondstadt at night was rather quiet, and coupled with the dragon crisis, even fewer people were wandering outside. Only a few adventurers walked in groups on their way to the tavern.
At this hour, the tavern was probably the most crowded place, right?
Mondstadt was famous for its heavy drinkers and giant babies.
The three of them arrived at Good Hunter, found a place to sit, and Jiang Chen ordered some food based on the funds he had.
Looking at how little they had ordered, Paimon instantly looked confused.
"Is that it?"
"Doesn't feel like enough to eat."
"Shouldn't we order a bit more?"
Paimon looked at Jiang Chen with hopeful eyes.
Hearing her words, Jiang Chen slowly pulled a question mark expression.
"Listen to yourself."
"You call this not enough?"
"It's already plenty, okay?"
"Besides, do you have any money?"
"That's all the money we have on us, and you still want to eat more?"
Jiang Chen was truly speechless. They had no money, yet she still had demands.
Upon hearing Jiang Chen put it that way, Paimon immediately shut her mouth. She didn't have any money either.
"Once we finish this meal, we won't have anything to eat tomorrow morning."
"Lumine, if push comes to shove, let's just sell her."
"Not only will we make a profit, but we'll also be shedding dead weight."
Jiang Chen discussed this matter with Lumine in dead earnest. Selling Paimon would make them a fortune and lighten their load at the same time.
Hearing Jiang Chen say this, Lumine's eyes lit up instantly.
She thought it was a viable plan.
"Deal!"
It really was a fantastic idea. Having traveled with Paimon for so long, didn't she know what kind of creature Paimon was?
She ate way too much!
Lumine sometimes felt she couldn't afford to feed her. Out in the wild, if it were just her, she could live quite comfortably. But adding Paimon to the mix changed everything. She had to forage for piles of food, only for most of it to end up in Paimon's stomach. Even when they found enough rations for several days, Paimon would devour the lot in a single day.
Who knew how that little creature managed to pack so much food into her stomach?
"Hey!!"
"You guys are going too far!!"
"You're actually thinking about selling Paimon!!"
Paimon's screeching drew the attention of the people around them, who watched the scene with amused smiles.
"Who told you to eat so much?"
"We're almost going broke trying to feed you."
Lumine couldn't help but complain. In fact, she was seriously considering the idea of selling Paimon.
Seeing Lumine's reaction, Paimon panicked. Was she actually thinking about selling her?
"Lumine, I promise I won't eat that much from now on!"
"Please don't sell me!!!"
Paimon wore a thoroughly cowed expression as she said this. She was genuinely worried that Lumine would sell her off.
Seeing Paimon's reaction, the corners of Lumine's mouth curled up slightly.
"If you don't eat so much, I suppose I can still afford to keep you."
"In that case, I won't sell you."
Hearing this, Paimon let out a massive sigh of relief.
"Really?"
"That's wonderful!"
"You're the best, Lumine!"
With that, she flew behind Lumine and began massaging her shoulders, looking every bit like a flattering sycophant.
Watching this, Jiang Chen found it utterly hilarious.
Just then, the food they had ordered was finally served.
