She continued rummaging through the shopping bags in the living room while I dragged my suitcase back to my bedroom.
I had received the coin purse at the beginning of the year, but because things were so hectic at home, I hadn't been able to use it. When I went off to college, I didn't dare take it with me for fear of scratching it, bumping it, or having it stolen. Now that I was back home, I figured the New Year was the perfect time to take it out and hold some lucky money.
I pulled open the bottom drawer of my nightstand. The gift box containing the coin purse was gone. I hurriedly pulled the drawer all the way out to see if it had fallen behind, but it wasn't there. I checked the two drawers above it, but it was nowhere to be found.
