Lin Qiye and Shen Qingzhu, accompanied by the Little Girl, advanced toward World's End, braving the elements day and night through countless hardships and dangers. They traversed a howling, desolate wilderness where the wind lashed at their bodies like razor-blades, crossed a roaring, bone-chilling river whose treacherous undercurrents lurked to drag the unwary into the abyss, and climbed towering snow-capped mountains where the thin air and steep trails rendered every step perilous.
As they pressed deeper into unknown territory, the surrounding landscape grew increasingly bizarre. Blood-red clouds frequently stained the sky, as though the heavens themselves were bleeding. Fissures radiating an eerie glow began to appear on the ground, emitting a chorus of hair-raising whispers that sounded like summons from the underworld.
On one occasion, they inadvertently blundered into the Misty Forest. The fog within this forest seemed endowed with life, shifting and swirling to encircle them completely. Trapped in the mist, they lost their bearings, every step fraught with potential danger. The surrounding trees grew twisted and grotesque, their branches reaching out toward them like withered hands.
"Everyone be careful, stay close," Lin Qiye whispered, gripping his sword tightly as he vigilantly scanned the surroundings. Shen Qingzhu shielded the Little Girl behind him, holding the Divine Artifact shield ready to block any sudden attacks.
Suddenly, a piercing screech echoed from the fog, and a swarm of bat-like monsters lunged out at them. The eyes of these Bat Monsters glowed with an eerie red light, and the edges of their wings were as sharp as blades.
Lin Qiye took the initiative, leaping forward with his sword to meet the enemy. Unleashing his newly comprehended technique, "Xingchen Phantom Slash," his blade dissolved into streaks of light that wove like phantoms through the horde of Bat Monsters. With every flash of light, a Bat Monster fell, its black blood splashing onto the ground. Yet the monsters were legion, surging relentlessly from every direction as though endless.
Shen Qingzhu joined the fray, using his spear to bat away the approaching Bat Monsters while deploying his shield to parry their attacks. "Qiye, we can't keep this up. We need to find a way out of this mist!" Shen Qingzhu shouted.
Fighting while observing his surroundings, Lin Qiye noticed that the Bat Monsters appeared remarkably sensitive to certain sounds. An idea struck him, and he pulled a whistle from his tunic—one he had accidentally acquired in some previous ruins. He blew into it, and the whistle emitted a sharp, grating sound. Hearing the noise, the Bat Monsters panicked instantly, scattering wildly into the fog.
"Let's follow the monsters; they should know the way out," Lin Qiye said. Trailing behind the fleeing creatures, they navigated the haze. After some arduous groping, they finally emerged from the Misty Forest.
Yet no sooner had they cleared the woods than a new crisis confronted them. Ahead lay an army composed of various grotesque monsters: towering Cyclops, Boar Monsters bristling with spikes, and phantoms radiating a dark aura. They stood in neat ranks, seemingly awaiting the arrival of Lin Qiye and his companions.
"Looks like we've been targeted," Lin Qiye said, frowning as he surveyed the monstrous army, knowing in his heart that a bitter battle lay ahead.
Shen Qingzhu tightened his grip on his spear. "No matter what, we cannot back down." His gaze was resolute, devoid of fear.
The monster army began its charge, the earth trembling beneath their thundering tread. Taking a deep breath, Lin Qiye surged forward to meet them, engaging the Cyclops at the vanguard. The Cyclops swung a massive wooden club down toward him. Dodging the blow with a swift maneuver, Lin Qiye slashed his sword at the giant's leg. The blade carved a deep wound into the Cyclops's flesh, eliciting a furious roar that drove the beast into an even more frenzied assault.
Meanwhile, Shen Qingzhu was locked in combat with the Boar Monster. Its razor-sharp spikes posed a constant threat with every charge. Skillfully deflecting the attacks with his shield, Shen Qingzhu sought an opening to counter. Spotting his chance, he drove his spear straight into the Boar Monster's eye. Grievously injured, the beast thrashed about wildly in agony.
Crouching behind a boulder, the Little Girl watched Lin Qiye and Shen Qingzhu fight with anxious eyes. Though filled with worry, she knew she mustn't become a burden, and could only pray for them in silence.
Amidst the fighting, Lin Qiye realized these monsters were apparently being controlled by a Dark Power; their actions, though seemingly chaotic, followed a certain underlying pattern. Searching for the mastermind behind the army, he quickly spotted a phantom lingering behind the ranks of monsters. This ghost radiated a potent dark aura, clutching a black staff whose crowning gem flickered with an uncanny light.
"Qingzhu, I'll take care of that ghost, hold the line!" Lin Qiye shouted, executing a movement technique to charge straight toward the specter. Sensing his intent, the monsters swarmed toward him in an attempt to block his path. Cutting down the approaching foes like a scythe through grass, Lin Qiye pressed relentlessly forward.
Seeing Lin Qiye approach, the phantom waved its staff, thickening the surrounding dark aura. It summoned a pack of Dark Wraiths that lunged at him. Because the bodies of the Dark Wraiths were ethereal, ordinary attacks passed right through them. Channeling his spiritual energy, Lin Qiye coated his eyes with a layer of luminous power that allowed him to perceive the physical forms of the Dark Wraiths. He unleashed "Xingchen Purification Slash," a sword stroke imbued with potent spiritual energy capable of inflicting harm upon the spirits. As his blade swept out, the Dark Wraiths dissolved one by one under the radiance.
Lin Qiye pressed on toward the phantom. As he closed in, the specter suddenly unleashed a powerful dark spell. A wave of black energy surged toward him; hastily raising his defenses, Lin Qiye formed a Spiritual Energy Shield before him with his sword. The dark energy wave crashed into the shield with immense force, sending Lin Qiye reeling backward.
"Hmph!" Recovering his footing, Lin Qiye charged at the phantom once more. He knew he could not let the creature continue to command the monster army, or they would be doomed. This time, he unleashed his ultimate strike, "Xingchen Doomsday Slash." Brilliant starlight blossomed around his body, converging upon his sword to form a massive blade of light. Leaping high into the air, he brought it down upon the phantom with earth-shattering force, the blow carrying the terrifying might of collapsing stars.
Sensing the mortal peril of the incoming strike, the phantom threw all its power into its dark magic in a desperate attempt to block it. But the sheer destructive force of Lin Qiye's attack easily shattered the specter's defenses, cleaving it cleanly in two. With the death of the phantom, the Dark Power controlling the monster army vanished, and the creatures instantly descended into chaos.
Seizing the opportunity, Lin Qiye and Shen Qingzhu launched a counter-offensive, thoroughly routing the remaining monsters. Exhausted though they were after the battle, they had no time to rest and had to press onward.
As they continued on their journey, they encountered a mysterious Old Man. Clad in flowing white robes, he had a head of white hair and a gaze of profound wisdom. He stood directly in the middle of the path, as though waiting for them to arrive.
"Are you heading to World's End?" the Old Man asked calmly and gently.
Gazing at the Old Man, Lin Qiye felt a surge of vigilance. "Who are you? How do you know our destination?"
The Old Man smiled faintly. "Who I am matters not; what matters is that I can help you. World's End is fraught with peril, and with your current strength alone, you will never reach it."
"Why would you help us?" Shen Qingzhu demanded.
A flash of pity crossed the Old Man's eyes as he looked at them. "Because you are this world's last hope. I can show you a shortcut, but it too holds dangers—you must prepare yourselves."
Lin Qiye and Shen Qingzhu exchanged glances, hesitation visible in each other's eyes. Yet they knew time was of the essence; if there was a faster way to reach World's End, they were willing to take the risk.
"We accept your help," Lin Qiye said.
The Old Man nodded. "Follow me." Turning, he walked off in a certain direction, with Lin Qiye, Shen Qingzhu, and the Little Girl following close behind. He led them to a mysterious teleportation array that emanated an ancient and arcane glow.
"This array will transport you directly to the vicinity of World's End. However, during the transit, you will face certain trials. Fail, and you will be lost forever in the Spacetime Rift," the Old Man warned.
Looking at the array, a surge of resolve welled up in Lin Qiye's chest. "We fear no trials. Let's begin."
They stepped onto the array, and the Old Man activated it. A blinding flash of light erupted, and they vanished from the spot. During the transit, they felt as though they were adrift within a kaleidoscopic spacetime tunnel surrounded by bizarre lights, shadows, and swirling energies.
Suddenly, phantoms materialized within the tunnel—manifestations of their deepest, most harrowing fears. Lin Qiye beheld the scenes of losing his family in the disaster; those painful memories flooded back, nearly crushing him. Shen Qingzhu, meanwhile, witnessed a vision of himself defeated by the Gods, forced to watch helplessly as the world was destroyed, filling his heart with despair.
"Do not let the illusions fool you, this is only a test!" Lin Qiye shouted aloud, fighting to keep his wits about him. Recalling his path of vengeance and the friends who had fought alongside him, his conviction hardened. Brandishing his sword, he slashed at the phantoms, watching them dissolve under his blade.
Shen Qingzhu likewise snapped out of his despair, remembering his mission and the hardships he and Lin Qiye had endured together. Brandishing his spear, he swept away the illusions, conquering his inner fears alongside Lin Qiye.
Having weathered the trials, they finally emerged from the teleportation array. Stepping out, they found themselves in a strange and mystical realm. The sky overhead was a brilliant violet, and the ground was studded with glowing crystals, resembling a dreamscape.
"This is the vicinity of World's End. The Divine Artifact should be close by," Lin Qiye said. Stepping forward, a mixture of anticipation and tension filled their hearts. They knew the Divine Artifact was their final hope, and they had to find it at all costs.
