Chapter 46

1,491 words7 minutes read

Whether day or night, the relentless attacks from the ground and the sky never paused for even a fraction of a second. They rolled in like endless, surging waves. The corpses of the demon soldiers now piled layer upon layer, leaving almost nowhere to step across the entire battlefield. The air hung heavy with a dense stench of blood, mixed with an unfamiliar, foul odor so pungent it made one want to retch. Lixi felt her stamina failing. She was panting heavily, her forehead beaded with fine sweat that slowly trickled down her cheeks. Not daring to halt her practice of the Suusuu Technique for even a second, she merged her form with the surroundings, concealing herself completely to snatch a brief moment of rest. Standing atop the giant horn of a demon soldier's corpse, she pulled out a handkerchief to cover her nose and mouth, tied it in a knot behind her head, and temporarily sealed off her sense of smell. Only then did she feel truly alive again.
