The night was draped in shadows, dotted with stars, and the birds in the trees were nodding off to sleep. Suddenly, a sharp, urgent whistle blast scattered the birds from the trees. It also jolted the new recruits from their slumber. As they woke to the shrill sound, a chorus of groans and complaints erupted. "What is this? Are they trying to kill us?" "We’ve been training all day! Can’t we even sleep at night?" "Are we worth less than livestock?"
