After a grueling battle, the repair work on the barrier wall finally neared its end. Liang Song was utterly exhausted; rain had soaked him to the bone, and his face looked somewhat pale. Yet, watching the barrier wall being restored to its original state, a look of gratification spread across his face. Not long after, Liang Song went to the hospital for a physical examination. Liang Song knew well that his years of military service and high-intensity work had made smoking a habit; quitting was far easier said than done. But for the sake of his health and to continue training his students, he made up his mind to quit. Emerging from the hospital, Liang Song walked straight to a trash can by the side of the road. He pulled out the lighter he always carried, staring at it for a long time as if saying goodbye to an old friend. Then, he decisively tossed the lighter into the bin. Afterward, he turned and stepped into a small shop to buy a pack of gum. He knew that whenever a craving hit, he would chew gum to soothe it.
